For mine & my brothers 1st ever Boro away game

Excitingly we gulped our tea down & jumped in to our dads blue morris oxford

On arriving at the ground & for whatever reason we went into the side paddock instead of behind the goal with the Boro fans
Before kickoff a lady Preston fan gave me & my brother a cup of coffee from her flask, how nice

The game itself, Eric McMordie ran the show with Mr Middlesbrough scoring the only goal of the game, what a start to my Boro away days with a victory

I've clocked up 82 grounds following the Boro, but that game always holds special memories

I was hoping to take my son to Preaton for his 1st Boro away game, that plan was dashed due to us been in South Wales for a father & son mini holiday & took in the Swansea v Boro game (2009) Boro winning 3-0, like his dad & uncle he started his away days with a win

A few weeks after the Swansea game I took my youngun to the Preston v Boro game
I had originally pencilled this game as his 1st away game forgetting the break we were going on, so the Preston gamexwas his 2nd away, i took photos outside a pub & outside the turnstyles
The game was just after Southgate sacking & before Strachan took over with Colin Cooper in charge for the game

I don't remember my first away game erimus. I do remember my first game with mates instead of my dad. It was against Darlington and was 1 1. This would have been mid 80's, possibly 86 87 after liquidation, and we got promoted that year from the old 3rd division. It was my first game with mates and in the Holgate. My dad used to take me to the bobend whatever that was. Don't think I have heard anyone else other than my dad and his mates refer to the Bob end. Assuming it was a shilling to get in.

Cheers erimus. I remember the darlo goal and turning to my mate and saying "come on you gotta applaud that" In the yellow rose after the game, the general consesus was if you can't beat darlington you don't deserve promotion.

Fans never really change much.

We went to the yellow rose before home games while at AP

Yeah we were a pint before and a couple after at home games. Short walk was the attraction as I remember. Usually ended up at the linthorpe a bit later on. Those were the days when you walked from pub to pub, taxi's were for girls!
