It seems like we did the right thing in letting him go.
In U23 games I watched with him playing, he always seemed an organised, calming inflience on the rest of the defence but he didn't seem that quick if people were running past him. When we got rid of him I thought it was an OK decision as players don't tend to improve their pace but you can train better positional sense into them, so other defenders such as Wood were much more likely to break into 1st team even though Stubbs was coaching him a bit through games at the time.

It was the same with the Scottish centre back we got in a few years aho, McGhee - he was a great positional player and organiser but not that quick - he had some great arguments with Pears though during games, demanding he come off his line with more authority - he was right!
