Sad to see Shotton gone

Has done ok for us and has been decent value given what we paid for him, I suspect he has another offer on the table and as he wouldn’t have featured tonight through injury has decided to not put his long term future in jeopardy and give himself a longer window for recovery, it’s the way of the modern world and I’m sure the vast majority of us would do the same in a similar situation.

Sums up our teams stomach for the fight doesn’t it.
Well they seemed to have plenty of stomach tonight.

And just for balance here's what Neil Warnock really had to say about the issue:-

Neil Warnock said: “Ryan was absolutely fantastic against Millwall last week and he gave us everything against Bristol City at the weekend.

“He was feeling an injury during the second half so we brought him off because we didn’t want to make it worse.

“This is our third game in less than a week and Ryan wouldn’t have played against Reading.

“With him not being 100% fit, he feels vulnerable to an injury that could prevent him getting him a contract elsewhere. I’m disappointed, but I fully understand his thinking.”

He was ok, but I always thought he had a mistake him in, did alright at full back under TP when not his position, but I don't really think he will be a great loss quality wise. However I always liked the way he played with a smile on his face and seem like a decent guy when interviewed, good luck to him.

Sad to see him go, if the club made an offer which he was not accepting then he is free to go, but happy to play but has now picked up an injury.
There is a lot of uncertainty about in football re funding after the shutdown, it could be very hard to get new clubs but if he thinks will get a better deal than what we are offering makes sense not to risk further injury and scupper any chance he has.

Thank you Ryan for your efforts one of Monk's better signings. Solid squad player, but not really a centre half and not really a full back. I suspect Warnock wants defenders with more defined roles and possibly someone who could be a captain.

We have cut some money off the wage bill this season that for sure.

Whatever you think of him as a footballer for me the fact that he agreed to stick around and play on after his contract expired and be an important part in getting 3 points at the New Den allures me to him, certainly more so than Ayala who had no interest In helping. Not a patch on Ayala in terms of ability but miles ahead in terms of heart and doing what is right.

So good luck Ryan for the future.

did a decent job when called for and a 6/10 performer. never gonna be premiership or even top .

Guess he was miffed when Howson got a new deal and then was told no deals handed out until Boro knew where they would be playing next season.... would miff me as well

Clearly shows his level of commitment to the cause. Good riddance
Listen to the Manager. What is it you don't understand here?

I agree. If we haven’t shown faith with offer of a new contract, why should he risk crocking his career? It works both ways

Nobody knows if he was offered a new contract or not and if he was what's not to say it wasn't a 'Dimi' size one? Look his contract officially expired on 30th June and he agreed a 22 day extension to see us through until the end.

Some of you want to give your heads a shake. He currently has no guarantee of being in employment with any team after next Wednesday so he's protecting a slight injury not downing tools!

I liked Shotton, my impression of him was that he put a shift in and didn't hide. People forget when a player is coming up to the end of his contract they sometimes have 'choices', should I go or should I stay and sometimes that choice is taken away by the club. I don't wish any player ill if it is their choice to leave. They once wore the shirt, that's it.
