Ryan Giggs - Guilty or Innocent?

a significant difficulty in a case such as this involving a high profile adored figure to 50%+ of the city of manchester, is having the trial and the jury from the city of manchester.

it skews the legal framework and thats not in the interests of equitable justice.
Sorry to be a pain here.
But I’m going to bang on about the play Prima Facie again. In cinemas now.

The odds are massively stacked against the victim - it is cultural.
That’s Barristers and Judges speaking btw.

I do agree with the Giggs effect also btw.
he was a great player n all that ……

Had it been announced whether the jury was polled? If the majority of the 12 thought not guilty, then on balance there perhaps wasn't enough evidence to convict. Also vice versa, of course. That may influence the CPS on whether to pursue another trial.

They were down to 11 (1 was ill)
Told they could go for a 10-1 gulity/not guilty verdict but they couldn’t get there.

History tells us it isn’t about evidence - its about barristers doing a brilliant job either way of putting doubt in the mind of the jury (usually by destroying the victim) or producing a compelling argument to the contrary.
The former wins in the vast majority of cases.

I think in he said she said, domestic violence cases is really difficult for the jury. Assuming there is not much physical evidence.

Good couple of weeks for footballers on trial like...........

The retrial had been due to start at Manchester Crown Court on 31 July.
Mr Giggs, 48, denied assault and controlling or coercive behaviour towards Kate Greville, 38, and assaulting her sister Emma.
Jurors failed to reach verdicts following more than 20 hours of deliberations in his four-week trial in August last year.

I am sure the court of public opinion will have already made its mind up on Mr Giggs and his innocence.

"Mr Giggs, 48, has always denied assault and controlling or coercive behaviour towards Kate Greville, 38, and assaulting her sister Emma."

"He (the judge) said Kate Greville had "indicated an unwillingness" to give evidence in a retrial as giving evidence in the first one had "taken its toll" on her and her sister."
