Royal Mail boss Simon Thompson - a lovely man

Contempt of parliament:
'MPs took the unusual step of asking all three witnesses to swear an oath before giving evidence, with Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy committee chair Darren Jones reminding them that to knowingly mislead the committee would be considered contempt of parliament and perjury.'
Strangers (those who are not members of the House) may be committed to prison during the life of the Parliament.
 
Their plans for Royal Mail are there for all to see now, thankfully the two Parliamentary Select Committee sessions have opened up a window into what has been going on at RM for the last few years. Simon Thompson and Ricky McCauley have faced real scrutiny for the first time and they didn't have a single satisfactory answer to the questions that they have finally had to face.

Internally they don't even like to refer to Royal Mail as Royal Mail anymore, because they want to phase out the word "Mail" in communications and normalise the pivot away from letters into parcels. It's an insidious thing that they are doing and it's to the detriment of a service that so many people still rely on. There are so many people out there that still rely on a letter! Letters from doctors, hospitals, banks, wage slips...I could go on and on!

Simon Thompson is a career parasite! One of those guys that fails and fails and somehow still manages to make more money than a postie could ever dream of. He makes his money by running people into the ground in the name of profit and gets huge salaries and bonuses for doing so. Wouldn't it be great to have national mail service that was headed by someone who could make the company succeed through talent, innovation, good strategies that ensure a fair working environment for every member of the company? Sadly it's a faraway dream at the minute!

There is not enough public anger about this right now, they are stealing away a community service that has existed for centuries! You might not rely on a letter, you might jokingly refer to what we bring you as "junk", but I guarantee that there are others in your community that definitely do rely on us for all kinds of reasons! I've been proud to serve the various communities of Middlesbrough as a postie since 2004 and it'll be a sad day for me when I no longer have the time to even say hello to a customer before I have to jump in a van and drive to the next parcel delivery.
 
One question that he didn't answer last time was the subject of which external company were advising him on these proposed changes.

Thompson said he would supply the information, although it may be confidential, at this meeting.

I didn't hear it mentioned.

Being a bit picky but there are some really good CEOs - bit unfair to tar them all.
Mine has just retired and she was excellent.
There are others I know that fall into that category.

As for Simon Thompson....
I know him and have met him a number of times.
Suffice to say I, like most people I know who have met him, are absolutely gobsmacked he is where he is.
None of us are surprised he has been shown to be miles out of his depth.
I'd go further and say his performances at the committee were, for him. relatively decent 😂

Astonishing how far a complete lack of self awareness can get people.
