If you are able to get down to the game early on Saturday then you might witness a really special moment as Roy Chatto is being presented with a Boro signed shirt in the FanZone. This is an early birthday present from the football club to its oldest home and away season ticket holder who turns 90 this month.
What makes it even more amazing is that Roy lives near Dunstable and Luton. Effectively every game is an away game. Yet he is always there.
Roy's Boro supporting days go back to World War II when he watched Boro play at Ayresome Park. His has seen all the greats over the years from Mannion, Clough, Hickton, Souness, Ravanelli, Juninho, Chuba Akpom and Latte Lath. Last Saturday when we were at Cardiff he told me his first visit to see Boro play away at Cardiff was at Ninian Park and Brian Clough scored 2 goals. I need Shaun Wilson to look up which year that is.
Roy went to every game, home and away in our two European seasons, often travelling with a printed out sheet of CAMRA recommended bars for each city. Another of his passions over the years. He was a relatively sprightly young guy in his early 70s at the time.
So, if you fancy supporting an incredible Boro servant then get down to the FanZone for 11.45am on Saturday.

05/09/1957 was the Cardiff away date, we won 0-2.

A truly remarkable record of watching the Boro. Travels up and down from Bedfordshire for each home game in a day weekend and midweek year after year after year. He deserves all the recognition from the Club and the fans if you can get there. I can’t think of a more deserving bloke and what’s more he won’t expect it or necessarily want it.

Those who travel regularly down the years will know him. Have a fabulous day Roy.

I went with him to some away games in the 1987-88 period and he seemed old then.

Well done Roy.
