Rooney

Jesus!! Whats he doing? Hes so bad, playing a deep lying midfield. Offers nothing and gives the ball away so much. His sponsers must be in the red😔

Poor derby

Legs have gone haven’t they.

Set piece taker now at best.

Sums up the mls if he shone in that

He has been a great player but there comes a time when you just know it's not there anymore. I can imagine the rest of the Derby squad thinking what's he doing here. Mind you I believe that Steve Mac will get them sorted and with possible Rooney as manager.

I am virtually 100% confident that if he is named manager they will get relegated. To me; they have a perfectly competent Championship squad, their problems are clearly to do with politics and lack of unity. He (and his wage) is surely the biggest factor in that. To name him manager would be absolute madness, with or without SMac.

I’d maybe even say Woodgate would be a better shout, that’s how bonkers it would be.

Steve mac is apparently a great coach so whos the manager wayne? Recipe for disaster. I loved how we schooled them today, their cbs cant play we gave them the whole pitch. Warnock is a great manager

I’m so glad I’m not a Derby fan, playing football from the back as if they were a top European team they were just not up to it.

We are just so well organised in comparison. They just looked like they will leak goals.

Definitely legs gone. They look like a side that is crying out for a 'Warnock' (clearly not) or Pulis type.

They just seem very disjointed and many players not up for it. Big Sam maybe?

He’s been poor for years including while he was at Man Utd. he got his last 25 caps putting those type of performances in banging in the odd penalty to creep over Bobby’s 49 goals.

true what they say about strikers that you only have so many top years in your career, him and michael Owen were both done well before they turned 30.

Always been the weakness of his game, tries to do too much and be all over the pitch, no manager would have him doing that so he probably just doesn't listen to them, he could get away with it when he was younger but not now and this probably frustrates his team mates and likely one of the reasons things aren't working out for them. Must be horrible to be a Derby fan right now.

Was hilarious when he put himself up front in second half. A past it Rooney was never gonna get anything out of Fry and McNair with their form.

The Championship is not a rest home for washed up PL stars. It is frenetic and physical. I don't know if Rooney is the problem in the Derby team but if I was giving up a place to let him and his ego wander around near the centre circle for 90 minutes I wouldn't be happy. They don't look like a team let alone play like one. Only player for them that looked remotely interested was 8 Bird.

Just read the BBC report on the game to check his name, I was astonished to learn that "Boro soaked up some solid Derby pressure in the early stages at the Riverside before taking the lead." which is an odd interpretation of Derby dicking about with it to no great effect. Compared to the last game against Norwich we didn't get out of second gear.

Not sure that's entirely true. Plenty of strikers have had long careers and proven to be top quality into their 30s. Depends on luck with injuries (that's what did for Owen really) how well you look after yourself (not sure Rooney was the best at that) and maybe the type of striker you are.

Look at Lewandowski. Probably just had the best season of his career at 31. Vardy arguably the same at 33. Defoe, Phillips both excellent well into their 30s.

To be fair Wazza is 35 now anyway. Most outfield players have retired by his age. He probably should.

I was waiting for the ubiquitous Rooney comments last night about him playing in the "quarterback role"

I dislike Rooney and Derby in equal measure, so they are a match made in heaven for me. The club owners hawked off the family silver a few years back on the promise of a Premier league pot of gold, and have paid the price ever since.

I partly feel sorry for the fans, as they are at the mercy of half witted owners, but n the other hand, no one has ever felt sorry for Boro fans, so screw em.

I knew he was poor nowadays, but I couldn't believe how bad he was last night.

He's far from what he offered the Premier League.

It's a shame really, because he's arguably one of England's greatest ever players and you look at him last night and he definitely needs to retire.

The longer he continues to play for Derby, the more chance they'll go down.
