Now forget Southgate snd woodgate as neither were rookie managers they were promoted from within so it wasn’t fresh eyes or a different outlook it was jobs for the boys.

Now back to the subject rookie managers and the boro

Big Jack
Robbo
Mclaren
Karanka

All had been ex players ( all bar mclaren had the highest level ) and all I would regard as successful.

So what are we so afraid of ???

I still like the look of Liam Rosenior over the other young uns that have been mentioned. Clever bloke, good knowledge of lower league players, can work with young players, work with a low budget.. we would have to get his backroom staff right tho. Easier said than done.

So it's forget the failures and only concentrate on the successful ones?

I'm not against rookie managers but I'm against bullshyt. You've missed a couple given the manager role from within, Stan Anderson and Willie Maddren. Stan assembled all but one of the finest team I've seen play for us, the only side that got close to being the best in the country in my lifetime And Willie who had to try to put a side out when we were in a far worse state than we are today. Both left the club with a very good bunch of players for the rookie and promotion that followed.

Of experienced managers, well that's easy. John Neal was the decent one. Lennie did ok, got us your couldn't keep us up.

The rest, and there's quite a few of them?

TBF both Mclaren & Karanka were already very highly respected coaches at top clubs: they had some standing in the game.

I'm not bothered by untested managers, though I'd like a coach that has worked in the game, not just an ex-player who had a 'name' from his playing days, that I really just don't get - possibly hype / influencer media driven promotion: Sky..
