Rod Liddle on Middlesbrough Question Time

If this hidden planting happened in Russia - People in the British media would love reporting its typical Putin trick, and rightly so. In this country beside about a dozen posters on a local football discussion board, nothing is said. Gazette has nothing on its website. Has BBC Radio Tees reported anything? Northern Echo?, Yorkshire Post? Regional TV?

link: more corruption?
and Brian is sat next to her.....how were these tickets given out? sounds shifty doesn't it. I mean what are the chances that one of a the handful of people who directly benefit from Crooked Ben's schemes and plots would get a ticket by fair means. Must be pretty slim. even more so that her husband would also get a ticket in a lottery.

And get asked for their views

Her husband is also Head of Safeguarding for Middlesbrough Football Club and was sat right next to her. I'm on the other side shaking my head and sitting on my hands trying to stop myself placing my hand over her mouth due to drivel coming out of it

Private Eye should get hold of this fact and make hay

I’ve said it before on here, but I know for an absolute fact that there are plants who are guaranteed to be asked a question on QT, or at least there used to be.. I worked with a guy who used to be friends with someone in Johnson’s team when he was Mayor of London. He told me he would be given call slots on radio chat debates so he could call in and say something controversial to stoke up anger and therefore engagement. He’d be told what to say. It was stuff like ‘ benefits scroungers spend all their money on booze and fags and have massive tvs’. That type of very transparent, Daily Mail type demonising of the poor stuff. He also told me that he’d once been sent onto QT specifically to ask a question. The particular question was actually a key one in the run up to a general election. I would have taken it all with a pinch of salt but I actually saw him do it with my own eyes, as I watched the show (at the time of the show, I didn’t know the guy - he told me about it a year or two after the event, but I vaguely remembered the moment because it was such a key topic). He said Gove came up and congratulated him afterwards, telling him that he’d performed perfectly. A few years ago, I searched through clips of the show and found it, with him asking the key question.

Honestly, the dark arts are very real and the Tories are much better at using them than Labour. Or just much more corrupt, dishonest and morally bankrupt 🤷‍♂️

When I was in the audience I sat next to the person I went with. You don’t get allocated a seat number
This is true also when I went a number of years ago in London but the question askers though are allocated specific seats. There were reserved tickets on their seats I recall.

Not when I went, they called out people’s names whos question had been chosen. The camera crew were then made aware of their names and position in the audience

When I have watched QT in the past they have used differing methods for selecting people to speak. Initially it was very regimented with a list of people. Now Fiona Bruce sometimes just will select the man with the blue jumper etc, it seems to be a mix of pre-selected and random.

Its also no longer questions more like statements from the audience. It felt like Dawn Robinson was making a statment opposed to presenting a question. When I applied for QT a few years ago I had to write my question and was chosen or not partly based on this question. Too often now the audience is allowed to make significant statements, and to me that will lead to more of this "planting" going on. To me you put a question in which is yours but agreed. There should be a wide range of politically neutral style questions.

Were you chosen or not?
