Rockgarden/Bongo Memories Wanted

In which case we're talking about two different Jimmy's, although the Uncle is my FIIL.

I know my FIL has a brother called Jimmy who would be far too old to have been at school in the 70's (my FIL is in his 80's now) he probably has a son called Jimmy, although I dont think I've ever met him (it's a big family).

That would make sense, it would be his son. Your FIL was a steeple jack if I remember correctly.

Hey folks,

We had a brilliant session at MIMA last week celebrating the Rock Garden. Thanks so much to all who came and got involved :)

Not sure we’ll be sharing some of the very um ‘spicey’ stories we’ve had in about the Bongo. It really was the Wild West over there. But we’ll be firing up our Pioneer sub woofer and playing dub, reggae, rocksteady and Somali cuts all afternoon if you fancy a sway and a nod :)

Here's a link to the info, Be lovely to see you if you can make it :)

It's also responsible for my lifelong love of Dennis Brown too. I was blown away by his voice when I heard "Money In My Pocket" there, so please feel free to add that to your list. As ever I wish I could come to one of your MIMA events, but live too far away. One day mayhap.

Another good shout. Will find that track for sure! Shame you can't make it but your tracks will be reprezentin' ;)

Bongo

It’s all in the offbeat.
Dancefloor quaking beneath the feet
of a Friday night.
Beats ringing from Kingston
and the feel of the Windrush
pushing you on to
Get up! Stand up!
Stand up for your rights!

And though Marley is righteous,
the fight just left you
and you’re smiling instead.
Now Prince Buster’s in your head
and Rico’s in your shoes,
rocksteadying your legs,
man you just can’t lose.

And the walls are sweating
out the regrets
of fifty years of drunken punters
who were shunted outside
to the freezing night air
of a steelheaded town.

No welcome there
except the spirits of sailors
who landed up unlucky
and left behind their DNA
in the heartbeat of the shack
where the beats are black
and no quarter is given
in a town that’s riven

with streetgirls and lager louts
and cast offs and cast outs,
who went home on ships,
tales dripping from their lips
about the the things they saw,
the memories they built,
the legends born
and the blood that was spilt
at Club Bongo International.

Fantastic! Thank you. Can I put it on the screen in the gallery? Are you the author? Or who should I credit to?
