Riverside commuting

Some impressive commitments here! I only travel from gateshead and that can be a a long ish day by the time I leave early to visit the fossils on the way down. I'm going to try the train at some point as I wouldn't mind a pint before the match which I obvs don't do when driving

Congratulations to AET who came up from Peterborough yesterday in a 400 mile round trip. Let's hope he can manage this on a regular basis. 🤞
Does anyone else make such a journey? Who is furthest away and still gets to the Riverside?

I come from North Hertfordshire, which is a 420 mile round trip, although even though I have a ST I must admit I don't do it every game now, especially as I have a 8 month old daughter (although I used to back in McClaren's day, including night matches, and I lived further away in those days too).

I think the bloke a d his son who sit in front of me in the north stand come from “down south”

I see his face at a lot of away games on the telly as well, good commitment!

I wonder if it’s someone off here 🤔

Roy Chatto is a home and away season ticket holder and travels from his home in Dunstable - he has been to a quite incredible number of games over his life. There will be few Boro fans that can talk about having seen Mannion play in his heyday. I think he saw Boro play at Ayresome during WWII. And even fewer that travel so many miles every game. He is part of a small clan that travel together from the Home Counties, though amazingly he does still sometimes drive himself up here.

Actually, Roy has been around so long, I believe he saw Alf Common's debut for the Boro. Reckons we overpaid! ;)

I'm practically local, compared to some on here. West Bridgford, Nottingham to the Boro and back is a mere 260 mile round trip. All those miserable drives home after a a defeat more than made up for by the way the journey flies by after a home win. And we've just had 6 in a row. Yesterday in particular, soundtrack from the updated West Side Story on the the CD player, celebratory wee dram in a Boro engraved whisky glass when I got home. Heaven! UTB!

Fun on the way back going past Rams fans in their coaches and wagons down the M1(y)

Like Artie l live in Gateshead and have done since 1975
So l reckon on an average of 25 home games a season and about 70 miles round trip. l have travelled
25x70x47 = 82,250 miles
We're all mad!

Wife and I live in Borehamwood and regularly get train up on return journey as we’re season card holders. Couldn’t make yesterday due to work, but always fill our seats with friends when we can’t make it…
Erm how have we not met! I did see a boro pair of shorts at a weeknight wood game once, perhaps that was you, long hair and a cap?!

I've had a season ticket for 24 years and never lived in boro for any of that, Sheffield (Train), Burwell (Train) Oxford (Train), Reading (Train), Bromley (Train), Borehamwood (Train), now Biggleswade area (Drive). I usually do at least half the home games (Virtually all before babies arrived), mainly Saturdays. Train/bus from Burwell and Reading was particularly tough, I would get up half cut around 5.30am and get back around 11pm to midnight, very long day, but definitely worth it to see Nicky Bailey and Kris Boyd etc :)

This year I have gone to every single league away game and will do them all. The weeknight NW aways have been my worst, 7 hour round trip on a Monday night not much fun!

I always assume there are souls more hardy than me, which keeps me going on the bad journeys!

Peterborough is about 170, its a bit further north than me reason I say is that my house is literally bang on 200 miles from the riverside and Peterborough is a half hour drive north.

I have bumped into quite a few Boro fans in the Welsh borders, some come up for home game. Its 500 miles round trip for me, but I only do about 12 homes games a season and about 8 away games (QPR, Fulham, WBA, Cardiff, Coventry so far this season). There used to a couple (man/woman) who came up the M5 from some where south of Worcester - the women always held a red and white teddy in both her hands. In 1986/7 I travelled from Hastings that was a 660 mile round trip, which I did over 2 days. Great season that made it worthwhile.
