Rise of the Nazis

The drama series about Hitler a few months back gave an interesting insight into the 'fortuitous' way that Hitler was put into power for reasons that backfired.

The recent 'The Plot Against America' based on the Philip Roth novel, which was based on his childhood experiences to a degree, shows there are a lot of parallels with now.

Yes - I did watch a few episodes it was set in the 1930s and 40s USA - It did show how Jewish people were being marginalised in the USA over a number of years in a fictional world. Of course racial lynchings were fairly common in the USA in the 1920s and 30s in certain states. There is today a museum of lynchings there were so many and it went on for long.

i have absolutely no idea who said this. (despite who its generally appropriated with).

"“The best way to take control over a people and control them utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible reductions. In this way, the people will not see those rights and freedoms being removed until past the point at which these changes cannot be reversed".

over the top Nationalism (how many flags does he have in the background when he talks)
I hate trump more than most but that’s just not true Americans dont grasp the concept of nationalism to them it’s patriotism loving your nation is nothing to fear or apologise for.

that’s not just trump by the way as you’d see just as many flags behind Biden Harris etc.

ecessive American flags isn’t anything new to trump.

in fact it’s about one of the only things you could Name that you can’t blame trump for.

Americans love their flag in fact it got its own protections in law/code.

Many people are understandably and rightly concerned with everything that is going on, but this is not at all like the 1920s and 30s. Trying to learn lessons from that period is nugatory because the world is different.
The world is in a constant state of change but to suggest that we can't learn from history is plain wrong.

The fact that Farage with help from the media here has managed to allow fascism, racism to be spouted freely from working class people is worrying but no longer unusual. Theres several posters on this board reek of it.

"Fascism" maybe a generic description, but authoritarian, totalitarian, autocratic, anti-democratic "government" creeps up on the population by degrees.
As a country we appear to be lead by the notion that fascists and racists wear jackboots and nazi insignia - some do.
In the main it wears suits.
When fear becomes the weapon of government - we have already relinquished our liberty and have to fight to take it back.
