Stirling Moss has passed away after a long illness, a big loss to the F1 world and the wider sporting world too.

Sad news - but what a life he led.

a true british great from the golden age of motorsport.

rip sir Stirling. - we’ll never see his likes again.

To think of the era he raced in it as incredible to think he made it up 90 he raced alongside fangio ascari etc he won the legendary almost mythical Mille Mille.

it wasn’t just F1 he raced as back then motor sport included many different disciplines so to master them all was a true skill.

From bbc

He amassed 212 victories in all competitions.

He was an outstanding rally driver and in 1955 set a new course record in winning the famous Mille Miglia, a 1,000-mile race around Italy.

I’ve just read the following on how he vouched for a fellow driver and by doing so he missed out on the F1 title. Could you imagine win at all cost sports stars doing that now?

From the BBC:

Moss famously lost out on the F1 title in 1958 to compatriot Mike Hawthorn after vouching for his rival and preventing him being disqualified when he was accused of reversing on track in the late-season Portuguese Grand Prix.

RIP to a truly great.

Yes it sums up the man, it was also known that he would often push for the win over going for points or placings as he was a racer and if he could win then he’d do all he could to try.

when you see the crash at 120 mph (remember no seat belts in this days as they believed being thrown out was safer) and reward that he was unconscious for 4 weeks after it.

then see the wreck he walked away from - incredible.
