A very interesting guy, refused a knighthood, member of CND and Greenpeace (but resigned from both), an Atheist who disapproved of Richard Dawkins calling him a "fundamentalist" a good proper "Leftie" I reckon.

Obviously a massive contribution to mankind. I can’t pretend to understand what he predicted but it was easy to understand his emotion that day when the LHC confirmed his prediction and booked him a place in the pantheon of science.

Interesting comment from him though ....

As for the Higgs boson itself, he saw very little use for it, other than understanding the origins of the universe. “It’s very difficult for me to imagine anybody doing anything useful with that particle. I don’t see any future for it at all.”
