RIP Fletch from Depeche Mode

Was at that Olympic Park gig too. They were fantastic as usual, can’t believe that’s the last time I’ll see the three of them play together😢

The band that I have grown up with and a bit of a soundtrack to my life. See You and Just Can’t Get Enough was when I was young and listening to pop, Black Celebration my sixth form angst, then Personal Jesus for student putting the world to rights, on to Try Walking in My Shoes for finding my way in life, Goodnight Lovers for my divorce, Precious for being a parent and Wrong for later life!

Terrible news .... great, great band DM shame I only saw them live just a few years back.

Of late I've been listening "Walking in My Shoes" a helluva lot....

Now I'm not looking for absolution
Forgiveness for the things I do
But before you come to any conclusions
Try walking in my shoes
From Songs of Faith and Devotion.

Both Martin and Dave were in a really bad state at the time. Alan Wilder left and Fletch kept everything together.

I had the Violator cassette given to me by my older brother when I was 7 and I never looked back. Such an underrated band in this country for some reason. Still selling stadiums out in 2017 is fantastic. Devotional is my absolute favourite live show/period of any band for me.

Fletch was the reason they carried on after Alan left and Dave's Drug/Martin's Alcohol battles. He was also a cracking bass player in the early days and he was hands on with the bass lines until Alan willingly wanted to do more ( until he got big headed about it )

Still gutted today.

I was there for that, had a broken arm a week before so in a sling and still near the front. was the same day as the terror attack too as I remember.

Yeah didn't hear anything about it until we got back to our hotel. A night to remember and a night to mourn 😔

I think all the notifications came as we was leaving the stadium and there was a mad rush to get to the tube, a surreal night for many reasons now

Heard a few people talking about it on the tube then watched the news when we got back. We had been in Borough market that afternoon, before going to the gig, so was very close to home.

This post made me realise that over the last decade or so I've not listened to them as much. Been listening to their albums today which made me wonder what everyone's favourite is.
I think it's quite a tough choice but mine is Black Celebration.

Read that yesterday too, nice little note from Martin and Dave with it too. Guess it's still too raw to know whether there will be anymore DM activity. Listened to 101 again last night, it is the best live album ever produced imho and the documentary that accompanies it is superb....will watch it again this weekend too.
