I heard of Dave Dickson (Dicko) passing from lung cancer 3 weeks ago, but couldn't make the funeral yesterday.

I called a friend to ask about the do and got the news that Peter Jones (Jonah) had also died a few days later.

These were my idols in the late 60s/early 70s, being stalwarts of the central Holgate and famous away games such as the Stretford End incident circa 1970.

Both of them, the nicest lads you'd ever meet.

I'll raise a glass in their honour tonight. I hope they both had a chance to feel the new Wilder effect before they went.

God bless you lads

Sorry to hear that Cogeur, two more for the holgate in the sky

RIP to the 2 lads x

I believe Jonah actually studied football tribalism/hooliganism or something similar at De Montfort.

You couldn't make it up 😁

Unless I did of course, but I'm sure he told me himself. Very clever bloke he was.

Dicko had his own Boro glossary. He used to have everyone doubled up with his uncontrollable laughing fits.

very sadly , yes.

got a text Christmas week off young Simon (Peters funeral was NYE)

i had some great time and sessions with Jonah, obvs as young Jonah was our mate - some of the sessions & discussions/meets at Croydon Rd when Dicko would be there, with Billy, Ernie etc were legendary.

Their tales and escapades of following the Boro in the late 60's and early to mid 70's was like the Knights of the Round Table meets the Ant Hill Mob with a twist of Flashman thrown in - we listened and laughed in total awe.

the trip to Oxford in 67/68 season was a standout. Bristol away was one long long party and made the national (and local) press - and i was told a great short tale about when they went into The Fulwell at Roker Park around 1970 - it was a short tale , said Peter, cos once they got in and met up in the middle, they started to sing a Boro song and in his own words and with a massive grin on his face, said "we lasted about 8 seconds", i think he blamed Dicko for singing out of tune .

his dad hit the roof the time when he came home with a police truncheon - took it off him and sawed it in half - their dad was a very strong Trade Unionist and quite straight laced, lovely fellow with a hint of a soft welsh accent, he was blacklisted on many construction sites around Teesside for organising workers - it was a different time and a different era, but i think his dads patience had gone cos previously a coppers helmet turned up in the house following an away game .

first times i heard Reggae and Ska being played on an actual record deck was with those lot, again round Croydon Rd - they did like a 'smoke'.

He was a brilliant artist was Jonah and in later life (late 1980s early 90s) did fine art at Leicester and Brighton.

Rest In Peace lads and sincerest condolences to their nearest and dearest, extended family and friends, another chapter of Middlesbrough and its great people has gone.
I put Simon's band (The Space Agency) on at the Westgarth last September. Peter/Jonah was at the show and seemed in fine fettle on the night. I spoke to Simon the other week & told me that he had passed and was coming up for the funeral.

Sad times indeed & condolences to all who knew the 2 lads.

Wasn't one of those, cant remember who from this photo fame? RIP

Ernie Ragbo (with the dungarees) used to take a coach (one of the Begg's buses' animal specials) to away games although I think Ernie was closer our age than Dicko and Jonah.

There was a time they wore bowler hats with one eye made up with white boiler suits/dungerees. I'm not sure Jonka went to matches.

They threw my older brother in Albert Park lake 🤣
