Riders and Dealers. Boots from the 80s

There was a guy in Whale Hill that sold them from the back of his house and I got a few pairs off him, but we would mainly go over to the horse sales in Stanley and buy them from there for a lot cheaper.

I was into horse riding and used to look after the gypsies horses in the summer when they went travelling for the shows. I knew a bloke who had a field at the bottom of Eston Hills and I would hire it from him and then charge the Foster's a few quid extra and have the best of both worlds - horses to ride and money in my pocket.
That's where I got mine 1975, treat myself for my 15th birthday I sold a couple of budgies to pay for them.

Grensons….absolute top notch workmanship, worth every penny.
I meant more the style than the make. I can’t remember the make now, but I bought them from Reporter at the time.

And had no money left to go out with, to wear them anywhere at the time *laughing emoji*

I was desperate for a pair of Riders but my mam wouldn't let me as she thought they were for 'bother boys'.
I eventually persuaded her and we went on the bus to buy them off a lady in Whinney Banks.
Turned out my instep is too high so I couldn't get them on. I was heartbroken so she bought me a big bar of Old Jamaican and promised me some DMs. I got a pair of oxblood ones a week later. So all good.

Never heard of Dealers before.

Dealers were brogue pattern riders plain. I had at 5 pairs of riders from Darkie Rodgers on Durham Rd. yellow red Black and dyed one pair blue. Tuxan red Tuxan Blue. Oxblood Kiwi polish, used to little styrup key rings in the pull tags. Cool as .
That’s the name I was trying to remember. Was he near Durham road chippy? Had a few pairs myself from him. Seggs from a place in Bishopton Lane.

I started wearing riders about 75, wore not much else for about 5 years, bought them from Thinford saddlery. Used to polish them with red Tuxan, remember going out with fingers stained with the polish and a mate asking ‘your lass on the rag?’

I remember them well - I was always a DMs/Docs wearer (still am, though prefer Altbergs for proper hiking) :)
