I saw this Peter Brookes cartoon in the Times and it made me laugh after watching Paul Whitehouse's programme on our polluted rivers.

Selfishly I'm grateful this hasn't affected the Swale at Richmond itself.
Gilling Beck discharges into Swale near Brompton downstream.

Ron the bloke in the article is a smashing fella who spends way more time on conservation than he does angling.
I hope they string the people responsible for this pollution by the balls.

I'm from this area, family live in Brompton. It's a real tragedy. Brompton river is a ncie walk and this is a real shame.

My brother lives out that way - the farmer is known for it. Apparently, vandals cut off the padlocks on the slurry tank and allowed it to escape. My brother did say that there was no sign of flying pigs......

He used that excuse last time and got prosecuted. It's a massive loss. Trout and crayfish attract otters to Gilling Beck which is a stunning walk.
Tragic. Without serious policing by the EAK it will go on and on.

The EA who have had their budget hammered since 2010. They rely on water companies self reporting issues as they haven’t the resources. Another Tory benefit.

Agreed but if you can't respond to such a catastrophic pollution event what's the point of existing.
