Renewing Energy Tarrif

After the massive hikes in energy cost, what are you guys choosing at renewal time. For example I currently pay £92/month for gas/elec which end in a months time. I've been offered Std Variable a £140 /month, Fixed for 2years £248 /month & Fixed 3years £225.
It's always been easy in the past, switch to the cheapest each year, now It's not so easy. Can I rely on a Government cap coming in, or go for the longest fixed and except thing as they are. Not intending moving and can afford it but we all want the best deal, right?

BTW cracking win the other day, the least we've deserved over the last three games. UTB

It’s ridiculous just had to pay £206 for 6 weeks. Can’t waited for the council tax to go up as well already pay over £2000.

This is why it should be in public ownership

Flipping heck its shooting up. I'm on a 5 yr fixed with Shell. Still got 2 yrs to go. Think I will be getting a big shock in a couple of yrs time.

Check the rates, but it may be cheaper to stay on the varaible tariff because of the cost cap by Ofgem. BG have been trying to get me to switch to fixed as they'll make money on it, but they can't force me off the variable one which right now is cheapest.

Don't do anything. The amount that you can be charged per unit is capped. The energy company can not charge you more than that unless you agree to a higher tariff fixed for a period of time. If gas prices continue to rise you may lose out, most experts seem to think they'll reduce in the spring of 2022.

Our fixed year deal comes to an end in a couple of weeks, best deal we can get is a £156 month variable with same provider. Fixed for 2 years was £230 ish. Advice we have been given is to stay with current provider......and that's from another company 😳😳.

My fixed is up in January. Shell are quoting me £199 a month for a new deal i just left it.

This. Check the money saving expert website. The variable will not be able to go above the cap and companies are desperately trying to get people to take up new deals using some iffy tactics to make some money.

Perhaps understandable given the dire situation but they shouldn't be trying to rip people off by suggesting that some of their fixes are the best option.

I understand the cap may need to rise sometime in the new year (possibly April, I can't remember) but you can always see where things are by then

I have always chopped and changed for best rates, as a result(?) I have had 3 companies go bust as suppliers, the latest Avro as moved to Octopus, who have set a monthly payment close to what I was paying before where I had also built up credit.
In a new build just over 4 years ago which has loads of insulation and summer autumn months gas usage minimal, standing charge higher than units used. A good mate has an older house in Acklam, he is on over £200 a month which he has just manged to reduce to that!!

I was with Green Network Energy and was moved to EDF. They offered me a deal in August on a fixed rate with a monthly payment of £65. They immediately upped my DD to £105. I was initially a bit annoyed but now, with the huge rises, I am relieved. I only have one bed in a terrace in London but god knows what I would be paying if I hadn’t taken the deal

I've also changed at every opportunity but been lucky in that my providers have not yet got bust at any point

definitely do not go onto a fixed tariff atm, current estimates say the cap will go to about £1660 in feb which takes effect from April, but even then it's some way below what current fixed tariffs are charging

Also avoid utility warehouse as they are a terrible company

The fixed deal they offered you is based on a fixed unit price rather than a fixed price so when they started looking at your actual usage they've adjusted the direct debit appropriately. No good now but always beast to know your 12 month consumption amounts in kWh so you can do direct price comparisons once the market eventually settles

similarly the price cap doesn't mean you pay that amount or less, as many expect it to, it means that based on average use that is what someone will pay but you can easily use more so you can be paying a monthly dd on fixed or variable but only your bill with accurate readings will show what you're actually using, one of the best reasons for having a smart meter as it will show your usage over 12 months and readings can be near real time so you always know what you're paying

I’ve been with Shell a number of years and found them to be pretty decent. I was on a fixed dHal energy tariff that was costing me £68 a month but that’s ending on December 31st. They have put me on the ONLY available new tariff they offer and that now works out at £105 a month. I have had a good look around on some comparison sites and of course on Martin Lewis platform and after seeing some of the prices feel I’m not doing too bad.

I tried going on USwitch and Campare the Market I think it was and basically they are shut down due to the current crisis.
