Refs to announce decisions to the crowd in game

I thought the refs in the World Cup were good as well.

The Premier League is a multinational league that people bang on about as the best in the world but it only has the 'best' officials in England, why not recruit from all over?
I think we should look at international refs as English refs are alot more likely to have bias towards clubs in games. As they've lived in this country will have built up feelings about certain clubs.

Don't see the issue with this one?

People were complaining that fans in the stadium didn't have a clue what was going in with VAR decisions, now they're going to announce the outcome of VAR reviews.

It works fine elsewhere.

The further we move away from the simplicity and beauty of football - moving, instead, toward bureaucracy and passing results and responsibility to ref’s, adding layers and layers of rules to justify - football will become less enjoyable for all.

It’s a cultural change that’s needed. Not technical.

Why don't we give referees their own walk on music and nicknames?
Exactly. It’s madness the importance we now put on ref’s. There are 22 players with 90 minutes to score more goals than the opposition.
And yet we fixate on the officials. I can’t think of another sport that is sacrificing the game in this way.

One day the game will be so complicated that coats for goal posts will no longer be a thing - these are the real grass roots, ruin that and the foundation of football is undermined

It’ll be great. We can now dissect every syllable that comes out of Paul Tierney’s or Michael Oliver’s mouth as we search for evidence of bias against Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal et al.

Best thing for the ref to do - don't make a decision, then we can watch the game and they don't have to explain themselves.

Just thought tho - the next step..... stop the game and explain why you didn't make a decision.
I'll hoof this next year when they put another daft law in place

Cricket, Rugby, American Football, etc, have had video assisted officials for ages and miked up officials explaining decisions.

Refereeing decisions have never bothered me, I accept they have to make a decision and do so in good faith from what they see at that moment in time. Whether I agree or not it won't change the decision, and yes they get somethings wrong on occassions just like everyone else, unless they are currupt then thats a different matter, but otherwise let's just get on with the game.

I've always taken this approach. Don't get me wrong, I've shouted at refs during games and when I see something that is blatantly wrong it will irritate me for a few mins, but at the end of the day, decisions do even themselves over a season. And if you are blaming a bad decision for why you haven't won a match then you haven't really won the match convincingly anyway. Just do better.

They do but they’re sports that can accommodate and benefit from these measure. They’re more defined and less open to interpretation. They also have natural punctuations in play.

However, my comment is more on the culture of the game. Most of football and surrounding debates is now about officials and rules. I don’t believe this was the case 10+ years ago. We did discuss it but it was largely about the game and players.

When I first started watching football you didn’t know who the ref was most of the time. Bad decisions were discussed by fans but it didn’t dictate most media around a weekend’s games.

We have a situation now where every single defeated manager blames the ref. If they win the next week they say nothing. The culture is toxic and you have boardrooms full of clowns trying to rewrite the game to save the caterwauling of weak willed managers. The saddest thing of all is that there is no way to do so. We’re just chipping away at the game.

It’s a disaster. Brian Clough and his approach to the game, to referees and to media surrounding the game was bang on.
