Red faction Twitter post

It wasn’t a case of this or nothing though, was it?

Even the north stand was generating a good atmosphere for the first time in years. Rather than join in with that or start chants that everyone can sing they persist with that self-obsessed tripe.
So what they were singing in that Twitter post was sang over what other fans were singing?

I don’t go to the games and make a note of what was sang at what point in the game so don’t know. What I can tell you is that I thought to myself that drum and whatever that song is they’re singing is killing the atmosphere.

I'd have respected it more had it been an original song even though it's dire but it's a Rangers chant.

That`s pretty damning of our support if 20 or so lads can kill an atmosphere over the remaining 27k supporters in the ground at the same time but

I get your point that the song was sung at the wrong time and they should have sang something else that the rest of the ground could latch on to to maintain the atmosphere

No imagination from the "Come on Boro", 10 second chant contingency then I see

Be open minded, instead of listening to it once and discounting it
If nothing else, "Come on Boro" is a spontaneous reaction to what is happening on the pitch. Unlike this choreographed raffle which often seems detached from the actual action.

A simple roar of excitement when the Boro are on the attack is enough to give me goosebumps, but the thudding of a drum is just meh. And a proper massed EIO celebration pees all over the tinpot "who are ya?" chant which seems to follow every goal in the SS now.

The RF could do a lot worse than look back to move forward. Embrace a little tradition and belt out some of the established chants that stood the test of time at Ayresome.

"Up the Boro, the Boro's going up, the Boro's going up to stay” got a little run out at Bramall Lane, simple, but proper and effective. (y)

Yeah I've never been a fan of 'who are ya'.

Fair play to RF for having a go but that is turd.

I'd like to suggest this for the next home game, to avoid looking like a hypocrite:

"EIEIEO
Newcastle are 5h1t you know
Saudi's a rogue state
Eddie Howe's a tvvat
You win f-all you win f-all
what d'ya think of that?"

Bring the old to the new. Obviously dependent on the outcome of Sunday's final.

Moreso the drum rather than 20 lads. It was probably the wrong game for it is all. About 6k non regulars who likely wouldn’t know any songs other than the classics.

I dread to think what some games would have been like without RF, I just think maybe they forget that most people don’t bother trawling forums or twitter to find out lyrics for songs - it took me about 3 matches to fathom the words to Wilder Said!

I'm not just saying this now cos I don't like Wilder but I never liked that one either. Could never work out what the tune was supposed to be.

I like the Super Michal Carrick one :) .

I played a part in the birth of RF but had to leave it behind due to work commitments but this was made easy for me by the fact that i couldnt get on board with the constant need for new chants brought from the continent, the german greek or dutch ultras scene with chants often 2,3 verses long which simply wouldn't work here. These types were and still are pushed at times the stadium was vocal with a 'classic' and RF choosing to bang the drum to try and direct these new unknown songs, i wasnt keen. If the whole south is singing one song its daft that RF would bang a drum to a different beat, literally. I understand they've initiated some classics but cant all be hits. I think they need to be very careful not to alienate people. I'm not knocking RF as a whole, there was some very good lads involved not sure if they still are now and they've brought life back to the ground and even though the last few games i feel the atmosphere hasn't been great, without them and the south it would be even worse i just think they need to read the room/ground at times and maybe test these new ones in pubs, on away days etc maybe im not sure...

I'm one block over from RF, and there's a group of passionate and vocal lads by me who always try to get chants going, but they just can't compete with an off-tempo drum.

It's not the Strachan era any more. What we desperately needed then is not necessarily what we need now. And I'm not just talking about Faris Haroun.
