Red Bull Reveal...

At 2pm today. Their new car (well the livery anyways) and a new engine partnership starting in 2026 with Ford.

Honda will continue to build and maintain the engines till then and then Red Bull Powertrains and Ford will partner up from 2026 onwards with Alpha Tauri also using my the same engines.

Ford and Red Bull have been working together on various projects for years officially and unofficially so it's not like it's a brand new partnership. Good to see more engine manufacturers back on the grid. Audi and Porsche also still joining from 2026.

Ford saying that the move to sustainable fuels aswell as a 50% electric element to the engine is the selling point. This tells us that we, the general public, won't only have have fully electric cars as choices in the future, biofuel cars will also be an option.

Assuming the Mercs will be stronger this new season? New engine, more power? More straight line speed?
Any thoughts?

Mercedes and all manufacturers are currently under a development freeze for engines to allow them to concentrate on the 2026 engines. This means that the only way they can make any changes is with the FIA approval and it's only permitted for reliability, safety, cost saving, or minimal incidental changes. Im sure they will have some way around it like "oh this turbo is more reliable and cheaper but twice as big generating more horsepower" scenario but has to be approved prior to replacement.

As Randy states it seemed to be more about the Aero than engine with the Mercs. Towards the end of the season they become more competitive once they figured the porpoising issues out and what was required to rectify it.

If you believe the hype then Ferrari have accidentally found 30hp through reliability and safety improvements to their engine ;)

Yeah it was amazing how many reliability Issues also magically seemed to improve power.

I guess Red Bull are cheating the Engine freeze by changing from "Red Bull powertrains" to Honda to Ford? So they get 2 sets of upgrade whilst everyone else is frozen?

Are Ford not coming in in 2026 when the engine freeze finishes? The point of the freeze was to allow all manufacturers to concentrate on the development of the engines to be used from 2026 so no real cheating on that front.
As for the Honda providing the engines for RedBull they never really stopped as RedBull were setting themselves up to make their own engines but had an agreement to use Honda engines in the mean time but looks like they are giving up on their own engines and remain with Honda until the end of 2025 season.

People always find ways to get around things just look at Chelsea and how they are signing players on 7 year contracts to reduce the costs and make them meet the FFP rules. This loophole is about to be closed and that's usually how these loopholes are found as they get used allowing some to gain advantage and then closed off for the rest of them.

We all know they were Honda engines. But I presume branding them red bull powertrains then changing the branding back is a cheat to get round the engine freeze?

Think that rumour comes out every season from Ferrari

If they can sort reliability out they probably have the best car. Rumours they had to turn the engine down in the second half of the season last year because the reliability was so bad. On it’s day especially in the first few races that car was fantastic

They never branded anything as a Redbull engine. It was never ready and Honda always provided the engines to Redbull it was no secret so not sure what you are getting at. The Redbull engines were due to be tested during the 2022 season but were never ready then Honda decided to continue to supply them with their engines. No great hardship for Honda as no development meaning no extra costings or time wasted by them. Don't see how any of that could provide them with any increases in performance through development as the engines will have been provided to the FIA and documented to make sure no changes are made during the freeze.

Reliability has been an issue for Ferrari so detuning the engine to save some penalties would have been a good choice. Binotto was their weak link last season though with some very poor strategy decisions. Hoping they have a better season this time round although would prefer Sainz over Leclerc to win.

well the new red bull looks like last seasons red bull haha
It's just a reveal of the livery more than anything really. The cars will be developed more during the testing as usual in Bahrain. Mercedes never had the crazy lack of side pods during their reveal last year and up until testing nobody knew anything about them.

Hope Hamilton manages to find enough in the car to get his final F1 title and retire as the best F1 driver of all time.
