Recommend me an Audible book

I have just received a special offer to tempt me back to Audible for 3 months for 99p per month and are not sure which book to get with my first credit - any suggestions?

I really enjoyed Jay Rayner's "My Last Supper". His thoughts on food are excellent and I liked his songlist too. He's a very good writer. It did make me eager for a bacon sandwich.

I've no idea what sort of stuff you're interested in but, whatever you fancy listening to, ALWAYS try the 5-minute sample before buying. A poor or annoying narrator can ruin the best books. I'm working my way through the excellent Slough House series by Mick Herron, narrated by Sean Barrett. Non -fiction; Metazoa by Peter Godfrey-Smith

I've found that in the past and had decent books spoilt by not liking the narrator's voice. Alex Ferguson's book springs to mind.

Here is a list of books I have previously listened to :

1. Berseker - Adrian Edmondson - Need to listen to this.

2. The Wager - David Gann. A true story about mutiny and cannibalism

3. Reach for the Sky (Douglas Bader) - Paul Brickhill.

4. The Satsuma Complex - Bob Mortimer

5. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare - Damien Lewis

6. Double Agent - Kevin Fulton

7. Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know - Ranulph Feinnes

8. Commando - James Owen

9. The Count of Monte Christo - Alexander Dumas

10. The Father Corner - Harry Pearson

11. Frank Skinner - Frank Skinner

12. How to be a Footballer - Peter Crouch - Really good and would recommend

13. SAS Shadow Raider - Damien Lewis

14. Farewell but not Goodbye - Bobby Robson

15. Start the Car - David Lloyd - The only audible book I've stopped listening to.

16. The Thursday Murder Club - Richard Osman

17. The Boy who Followed his Father into Auschwitz - Jeremy Dronfield

18. The Tattoo of Auschitz - Heather Morris

19. Into Thin Air - Jon Krakauer

20. Step by Step - Simon Reeves

21. To Have and to Have Not - Ernest Hemmingway

22. South - Ernest Shackelton

23. Operation Mincemeat - Ben Macintyre

24. Treasure Island - Robert Louis Stephenson. Narrated by Timothy West. I love this story and have done since I was a child.

That is an excellent selection. I’ve done them all except Stanley Tucci. In the middle of the void with the Villa fan right now.

I tried this but didn’t finish it.

I just couldn’t take to him.

I should have mentioned, I tend not to read or watch anything sci-fi and other than the classics of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Bram Stokers Dracula, I tend to avoid books of this nature.

I do fancy @Wiseman_Vaughn choice of Stanley Tucci and Geezer Butler’s books.

I’d still recommend the Jay Kristoff book, it’s not your typical vampire story.
