Really Not happy at the end of another window

Might be wrong but it looks to me like we've recruited for 433 or 4231 being the main formations? (Lack of left back cover aside)

I'm still not convinced we have one one passable wing back at the club, let alone two. It's such a specialised position, unless you have upwards of 70percent possession and the wing backs become de facto wingers.

I'd say on paper it's been one of our best windows in a long time.
Some potentially excellent signings and some decent back ups.

The only problem is the failure to bring in a left back, but there are still free agents.
Kean Bryan is still about so maybe we'll get him in.

I’m pleased with the recruitment. I’ve been very impressed with Crooks and Uche and if the other new boys can have similar impact then I think it’s going to be a good season!
Would have preferred to keep Morsy but ho hum, time will tell if it was mistake. Warnock usually knows what he’s doing.

I thought we might get one more in. And left side is still a little weak but on the whole I think we've got some interesting options and I'm excited to see how we line up and play as a "finished" team.

IMO a decent rebuilding job. Well done MFC.

We don't have the money for cover all over the pitch just like most clubs in the EFL, it's a risk that just has to be taken.

We can just about attract decent players for the first team, we've got no chance in getting similar quality players to come in as "cover".

We just have to adapt or hope that players can do roles they are not naturally suited too.

I cant tell if its a good window or not. In terms of number absolutely yes but as yesterdays additions have never had any experience playing in England never mind the Championship cant make a judgement on the window until we see how these players perform. Morsy going was not good IMO because not only are we weak on. the left we are now short on a defensive mid cover.

Are you on the spice again, Newy? Even Kevin Keegan wouldn't pick that team 😂
5-4-1 with a tasty double 8 combo in the middle
“we need pace and creativity” they shout..

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!!

Dont agree with most of the OP but you are completely correct about the LB/RB cover, we are only one injury to Dijksteel or Bola from our season potentially falling apart. Shocked we would send the cover for both positions on loan with only really Peltier to cover who probably isnt good enough to have a decent run of games

If you don't play a formation that has a left-back, then there's no problem only having one natural left back, and also some others who could step in.

If we played 4-4-2 and it was 1990 then I would be concerned, but to be honest I'm glad we've prioritised our attacking options, as it looks like we're going to try and be on the front foot, rather than the back foot.

Anyway, there's still time to get in a free agent, if we want/ need one.

I don't see how fans can't be happy with the business the club has done this window, even before you take into account the number of previous windows where we've either failed, or not had the budget, to get the right players in.

13 new players, with some real quality in there and some significant investment on players that are from a market we financially haven't been able to compete in for a couple of years now and one that is far more adventurous than previous years.

Gibson has obvious made the funds available and the new head of recruitment, who was appointed last summer and has been critical to this, have to be given credit - especially so the latter of the two.

Add the DoF role into that mix and even the most negative of supporters must surely see this as a positive change of direction?

I'm really happy. Considering the financial climate we have bought real potential in my eyes. Regarding Spence? How is it baffling you? Apart from pace over the last couple of games he did ZERO with the ball. He didn't beat his man and his crosses were dismal. Spence should be miles ahead of Jones but he isn't, he's miles behind. Warnock sang his praises but the next game? He couldn't beat his man and was running into a blind alley. I trust Warnocks judgement Regarding Spence. He doesn't seem to have the capacity to assimilate instructions.

The club might be boxing clever via Spence / Coulson and loaned them out with a stringent old school Championship Manager “can be recalled from loan” clause. That way if needed they hopefully come in match fit with extra experience under their belts, if not needed, they’ve hopefully had a full season under their belt to either come back to us stronger and ready for the first team or up their price tags from if we sold them just as rough diamonds with lots of potential.

And how much have we actually spent?

Most of it is flipping people’s wages from last season. Definitely doing more with less, just smart recruitment.

That was a terrific window looking at our forward options now, and I’m excited to see how it translates on the pitch.

Not sure if you would get that clause nowadays, if they're paying the wages, and you actively want the player off the books for the season. You may get a Jan transfer window call back clause, on a season-long loan, but that's it I expect. Unless there was a massive queue of teams who wanted to loan the player, if you had a choice of 10, then could maybe dictate that. I expect we would have a "must play 75% of games" clause, and to get that we wouldn't get a recall clause, unless it suited both sides.

If they ended up letting the players come back to us, then they have no chance of getting a replacement, and they likely need the players more than we do, to stay afloat etc.

Yeah agree with that, we’ve lost some big earners and replaced on the cheap. But some exciting players too and if they come good will be good to watch
