The squad isn’t as strong as last season so anywhere in the top 10 would have been a major achievement, realistically I was expecting us to struggle a little bit early in the season and then gradually improve as the new ideology and style of play kicked in, with the young players in the team we were always liable to lack a bit of consistency and be prone to the odd disappointment, I reckoned around 14th to 16th would have been par for the course, remember some posters expecting us to finish around that spot with Pulis in charge the season before, which should have tempered expectations this season.
I was told that Woodgate would be part of the coaching set up this season with the long term aim of succession at a later date, I can only assume that things changed within the club that altered that timeframe and I’m still unsure of our preferred pattern of play and go to formations, which is a big concern as we haven’t got a default back to basics model within the club and this can only be put down to the manager.
