Realistically with this squad where should we be in the league

I know they say the table doesn’t lie, but there’s no way this squad should be in the bottom three, or anywhere near it.

so where do you think based on the squad we Should be?

bottom play offs... usually I would say top two as I have very rose tinted glasses and I still believe we can win EVERY game .... undented optimisim

Under Pulis, with Besic/Downing/Flint in the squad, and Braithwaite/Mikel for some of the season, we came 7th.

I reckon with Pulis in charge, and I’m not saying we should have kept him, we’d have probably been at least 12th. I was happy to accept 12th-17th with Woodgate as he learned in the job.

Still could happen, but not feeling likely.

We shouldn't really be referring to Preston as a big boy as Woodgate tries to. Our squad is pretty much same as last season, add to that he got his three main targets in the summer (his words).

When we inevitably stay up it will be heralded as a great escape by Woodgate. The man can do no wrong regards to local media spin.

Reality is though, he has been a cataclysmic disaster, foreseen by large amounts of us - apart from Sir Steve.

Still think we will win tonight.

The squad isn’t as strong as last season so anywhere in the top 10 would have been a major achievement, realistically I was expecting us to struggle a little bit early in the season and then gradually improve as the new ideology and style of play kicked in, with the young players in the team we were always liable to lack a bit of consistency and be prone to the odd disappointment, I reckoned around 14th to 16th would have been par for the course, remember some posters expecting us to finish around that spot with Pulis in charge the season before, which should have tempered expectations this season.

I was told that Woodgate would be part of the coaching set up this season with the long term aim of succession at a later date, I can only assume that things changed within the club that altered that timeframe and I’m still unsure of our preferred pattern of play and go to formations, which is a big concern as we haven’t got a default back to basics model within the club and this can only be put down to the manager.

I think lower mid table. Atypical’s 12th - 17th is about right. Finishing 21st seems a wet dream as things appear to be panning out. Dark days indeed, and all foreseeable

agree if offered 21st now would snap ya hand off. I’m gutted it’s come to that but it’s true. I really don’t wanna go down to league 1

With a proper manager we would be in the play offs?. If these players are good enough for that they should be taking some responsibility - however badly you perceive the management to be. I hope you are not excusing the players then. Personally I think the squad is poor. Lacking pace and a goalscorer. A good manager would keep them mid table.

Not a fan of Pulis or his football, but I said last season that I thought Gibson was relying on his vast experience to get us up and that he did extremely well with an imbalanced squad.
It's very hard to judge Woodgate and his managerial ability because I think a lot of managers would have struggled with this squad, it being bereft of real creativity.
An exceptional manager might have it in the playoffs, but the vast majority would still have only have got it into mid-table.
Blaming our lot on Woodgate is missing the bigger issues I think.

Agree. Instead we're 21st with a poor manager.

The state we are in possibly indicates that the players are not giving 100% to Woody and that is a sad situation which is difficult to rectify without management changes.

Comfortably mid-table with a decent manager, a very good manager would have us flirting with the play-offs.

We should not be 21st, and that's down to Woodgate.
