Re the death penalty

They have the death penalty in some American States.
It hasnt stopped the shootings has it?
Or is that something to do with gun law in the USA?
Two intertined debates. Start a thread about gun laws if you want.

For sure the disgusting gun laws contribute massively to the massacres.

My statement was 'tell them about justice'

I didn't ask about gun laws.

The two are interlinked.
That cant be ignored.

I'm not a massive fan of the death penalty - I think its more about revenge than justice.

I can't even begin to imagine the suffering and pain that all families and those left behind of murder victims must go through.

However, as stated above a life in prison, without the hope of release, is often more painful than the certainty that it will end.

As an aside, I hear the argument about executing only those that have been proven to have committed the crime should be executed ( I would exempt confessions from this for a number of reasons) I am still not comfortable with possibly executing somebody who was innocent.

Prior convictions are excluded from evidence for good reason.

That’s not true. Both the prosecution and defence can make an application to the judge to reveal previous convictions. The judge can also decide which previous convictions will be revealed I.e those similar to the current trial and more likely to be allowed to be heard, also so are the more recent ones. Same goes for dishonesty related offences for victims / witnesses.

The death penalty is uncivilised and should be condemned to the history books.

If a higher intelligence exists and is observing us then they must shake their heads.
