Rav van den Berg

It’s easier to keep CBs who are a level above than most other positions - look at Southgate for us.

I think most big clubs have established partnerships and won’t risk a younger player in there. Also as a centre back you get less game time as 3rd or 4th choice, no one subs a centre back on for 30 mins.

It’s great news for us that RVDB’s mentality is that he came to us to play, rather than get lost in the system at some giant club. I think he’s less likely to be snapped up straightaway than the likes of Rogers or Hackney, especially given his age we might get a good few seasons out of him.

I still think it will be Hayden Hackney that goes for more, this is no reflection on RVDB's ability, but he is a defender from a championship club.

Despite our belief in his abilities, unless we get to the prem there will be a lower a much lower ceiling teams are prepared to pay for a CB rather than a midfielder who's style of play is very fashionable at present, also got to add in the English Tax!!!

Hackney definitely worth more right now! That's not to say Rav won't go on to be worth more in the future.

Branthwaite at Everton he of kicking Fry’s eye out, is lorded as multimillions. We could have someone better although not fully tested at the top level.
Man U are supposed to be ready to bid 75 mil squid for Branthwaite in the off season. With that as the benchmark, what do you think RVB would go for?

A lot less currently. Branthwaite is an established PL defender (75M would be far too much mind, look at Haaland rag dolling him the other week).

We have had several Centre Backs before (in the Championship) who I thought were good enough to move up to the prem - but we managed to keep them all apart from Ben Gibson. The slight difference here is that VDB is so young. But yes, you would think that someone will come in for him with a big bid if he continues in this fine form.

How much did Brighton pay Bristol City for Webster a couple of years back? Was it £20m or £25m? You’d think another year or so with Boro would see someone offering that kind of money for Rav, as long as he keeps developing as he has been. Hopefully we’ll be promoted by the time someone really wants to sign him.
