Yes true. As I say, we won’t know the exact figure. I’ve no doubt there are bonuses etc at play too.£7k to £25k is a big increase.

£42k wouldnt surprise me frankly. The following season we enticed Merson up with double what he was getting at Arsenal. Heady and cash splash days alright.TLF was on £13k/week.
The media used to love to big up Rav's wages - my guess is £25k/week. He went to Marseille and we got £5.3m back, so my guess he went on a similar salary.
Merson was £15k/week - Arsenal were not big payers in 1997 so it could have nearly doubled his wage. They were not a top 6 team like now.
The £15k was enormous for a Championship player - a bit like £100k/week now.

Arsenal had a bad season but they were champions in 89 and 91. And made two European finals (winning one), plus a few domestic cups in early 90s. Not top 6 is definitely pushing it, especially as they were one of the big 5 PL creators.TLF was on £13k/week.

True, but they were notoriously low payers in the George Graham era. Merson mentions it in, as does Lee dixon in his book. A story about Wenger apologising to him and Winterburn for the low wages they are on when he renews theirs.Arsenal had a bad season but they were champions in 89 and 91. Vialli had all the same experiences going to Chelsea the same summer, and went about the situation with a lot more decorum than Rav. Chelsea were a mid-table side at the time too.We like to put the blame at players doors but from interviews etc it's been pointed out that our facilities and professionalism (diet, methods, culture) were total amateur level which must have been jarring for some of these players to come into
