After months of feeling bloated, acid reflux, gas and heartburn I had an endoscope and it found I have a 2cm sliding hiatus hernia.

I'm on PPIs and and Gaviscon, but I don't really want to be taking these daily for the rest of my life.

Anyone here had a hiatus hernia for a while?

If so any tips on how to control it? Exercise, diet etc?

I also have IBS so some of the symptoms can get mixed up.

Sounds like I should try Lanzarapol! Yep I suffer from time to time. Spicy food and fizzy drinks exacerbate things, as does stress. I take Omeprazole when symptoms rear up. I try not to eat later than 9pm and prop myself up in bed at night. That seems to alleviate the worst. Also I have a IQoro a Swedish invention that is basically a device to help with Hiatus hernias and reflux.

Yep. Long-term sufferer, and I hate it. There are some good exercises on YouTube. One is a yoga like stance where you stretch your arms above your head and hold your breath in. Also leg raises on you back can strengthen your diaphragm.

I was diagnosed with a sliding hiatus hernia back in the mid nineties. I take Esomeprazole daily, which appears to do the trick.

Omeprazole for me had a hernia for 6years be careful tho it has to be on prescription as I had a little bit of trouble with the first 2 prescribed to me . All about diet and exercise I have now gone to a mediterranean diet and have no problems and walk 10000 steps a day careful with the alcohol as well

I’ve been on lansoprazole since February. It has cleared up everything but I’m a bit concerned about the long term effects of taking it.

Had one for 9 year. Had corrective surgery 3 year ago (fundoplication). Got bad advice that I could dispense with daily tablets 3 months after surgery. Ended up with stomach ulcers and got hospitalised with internal bleeding. Hernia has now returned (albeit not as bad) and Im back to daily Pantaprazole at highest dosage and all the old problems with reflux and having to carefully manage diet. I also have a Barratts oesophagus as a consequence of the number of years of reflux. Need to have regular checks
Treat this thing seriously as it can be a killer. Make sure to see a doctor and dont try to self diagnose
