Radio commentary through app

I’ve lived away from Teesside for a long time so pay for the seasonal radio commentary and listen through the MFC iPhone app. I don’t remember when it changed, maybe just this season but it seems to be a really inconsistent overall service.

The matches themselves are usually fine barring the odd technical difficulty, nothing to usually complain about. However, the pre-match, half-time and post match seems to be constantly interrupted by the same series of strange adverts and jingles, even in the middle of interviews and the commentary team talking. After the match there are often long periods of silence or near silence where you can hear what sounds like a game being played. As I write they just interviewed the opposition manager, now it’s radio silence and I’m sure those daft adverts will kick in again soon.

I’d be interested to know why this is the case, maybe they can’t audio stream certain segments and that would be fair enough, but it’s done really badly and I’d quite like to listen to the pre/ht/post match segments to keep me in touch with back home. I don’t think this is too unreasonable as I’m paying for it and I’m sure it used to be that way? Anyone else noticed any of this?

EDIT: they also upped the price this season for what is an inferior service based on what it was before.

Video stream is the same, lots of adverts before, at HT and after. They play the highlights about 5 mins after the game without commentary so that's what you can hear...

It's because it's not really BBC Tees - it's the iFollow audio stream without the video. iFollow always fill it up with stupid ads.

Yes, just had some match sounds coming through, now silence. I just find it strange, I’m sure earlier in the season they had the post match phone in, but now it’s silence and a bit of game noises and maybe an interview or some ads.

I thought that might be the reason for the ads, but the long silence is just odd, has it finished? Is it going to go back to the commentary team? I know it’s not too expensive and I get the match commentary, but it would be nice to know what’s going on the rest of the time!

At least we get something - most other iFollow streams have nothing but silence and ads at half time....

I wouldn’t mind that so much, either one or the other. No build up, ht or post match - where I know I’m just getting commentary would be better than the strangely timed interruptions and silences where I haven’t a clue whether it’s coming back. A few adverts better timed would be ok, but maybe the budget doesn’t stretch that far, even though they used to just let BBC Tees run in the past. However, if it’s the same next season I’ll combine with BBC Sounds 👍🏻
