Pubs closed till September

Well an oncologist on twitter has indicated an exit strategy could start in mid May. Starting with businesses with less than 50 people reopening. I think other countries have taken this approach too.

Everything will be fully functional by July 1st is my guess. And that is purely a guess.

I can see this regarding smaller business and those who are able to accommodate working from home. I don't think many businesses like mine could survive beyond this date anyway ... I'm hoping for end of April or end of May at the very latest. Like you say, I cannot see retail/pubs/clubs bars before July at the very earliest but all the same, September doesn't seem like a extreme date sadly.

Capybara, you do get used to knowing who would like to see a trick and who wouldn't. Some folk say no of the bat, and that is fine. If I do show something it is 1 or 2 at most. I am generally well recieved - There is an old magic joke. How do you get a magician to show you 10 tricks? Ask for one.

As much as I love a night down the boozer, if we are going to prioritise what opens first and what opens last, I'm happy for pubs to be towards the back of the queue. Sad for owners and employees of course, but some things are more important.

Going to the pub, or a meal with the family is something we all crave to do
If it were to start in September & let's make that a goal to have something positive to aim for then it woukd need to be policed very stricktly with no pubs bursting at the scenes at weekends for quite a while

I imagine September is probably what they see as a worst case scenario. I can't imagine we will see all pubs closed one day then back to all day opening the next, which would be a recipe for disaster. I would imagine gradual re-opening to see how it goes.

I love being able to order at the bar. Sitting at the bar eyeing a pretty young wench is one of the few pleasure a middle aged Boro supporting male has in life...😉

I have to say I've really got used to it and much prefer it - it's the norm here in Spain of course

Yeah lived in Andalucía up until last year and I much preferred the more civilised system of sitting down at a table, having your drinks bought over to you (accompanied with free tapas) then settling up at the end.

I also like the way they serve spirits here - no "measures" - just bring out an empty glass with ice, and keep pouring the gin until the glass looks about right - can't normally get the actual tonic in a G&T

As a non-drinker it is easy for me to say, but would the move to more of a cafe culture be a bad thing?
People sat at tables enjoying a drink and food, being brought drinks and food by an army of waiters etc might actually be a better business model and also reduce the incidences of binge drinking.

The lounge in the pub where I worked in the 70's, Kings Arms in Billingham, had table service.

Many older pubs at the time still had push buttons around the walls no longer connected.

The choice was taken away from us, we didn't demand it.

I prefer to stand up when I’m in the pub, I’m sat down at work. The pubs I usually go in would not be able to do table service. There is a balance between both options.
There is and will always be a place for a pub rather than a food and beer establishment.

I was in Perth WA when this started, one of the measure they brought in (not sure if it was policy but a lot of bars & restaurants did it) was based on number of customers per square metre, so the area decide how many you were allowed in, with empty tables between each.

I think the buttons in the lounge were for the use if any ladies who weren't supposed to queue at the bar.
