Prepare for a Great Tory Tax Givaway

That would be very silly. Only 4% of estates attract even a penny of that.

The people who would benefit from it already vote for them.
True. But, on one level, it might be quite clever politics.

The headline threshold for inheritance tax is £320k (from memory) and lots of people in the south might think that, as their house is worth more than that, they would be caught by it. The truth, of course, is that various allowances mean that family houses are exempt up to a value of £1m (again from memory), but I suspect most people don’t know that.

IT raises over £7 billion from the wealthy. It means the Government would have to find that from somewhere else to pay for it. It’s an unnecessary bribe to less than 100,000 voters but would affect millions given the circumstances.

To be fair that could be a huge opening for Labour and Lib Dems if they can spin the response correctly,

maybe they realised they are going to lose the election and want do as much damage as possible before they go and also keep the tory elites happy who will benefit from this tax more than most

Assures the corruption party of precisely 3.8% of the vote. That won't really help them. This act is more of an apology to the wealthiest for f' ing up.
Won't take the new government very long to reverse it.

in other new.... Is lard **** in jail yet? You would be if you were held in contempt of court.

BH - just about right the basic figure is £325k - increased to £500k if you leave a property to a child or grandchild. If you were married you can also claim the deceased partners allowance, giving a £1m allowance. Even in the South East that must be less than 10% of the population (consider many wealth people put their assets into trusts to avoid inheritance tax, or care and medical fees take a lot of money in later life). An average property in the South East must be around £500k.

To me if they want to bribe voters is the raise the upper income tax thresholds (40%) - that affects about 6m people a lot of them would at least consider voting Conservative, but may not.

To me, the bribes began in the last budget

10% increase in state pension was well above average wage increases (6.5%) to keep older voters happy. To me it would have been fairer to give pensioners 6.5% when money was so short for NHS etc

Private pensions lifetime limits (for tax relief) were abolished and the annual limit for 40% tax relief was raised to £60k from £40k. I was actually expecting this to be cut.

The private pension changes only help the top 10% and they reduce tax revenues by for public services by billions.

Tories ignoring the cost of living crisis and pretending there’s a cost of death crisis.it’s just so typical Tory.

This is largely a giveaway to their millionaire mates not the general public, the poorer and a growing number have nothing of value to pass on because of the cost of care for the elderly anyway

Will anyone ask the Tories the question that Labour is always asked............ That is, how will the lost revenue be replaced?
When it comes to tax cuts the millionaire press barons never ask such questions. Only when money is spent on anything that doesn’t increase their own wealth do they do so.

Sunak targeting wealthy southerners. Surely not?

You'd have to be absolutely fecking thick as mince to vote Tory at the next election. They can't even be arsed hiding the contempt they have for for anyone other than than the wealthy.

(Sorry, not sorry, if that offends anyone who is thick enough to believe they have the best interests of anyone other than the top 1% at heart).

It should be scrapped or at least see the threshold significantly increased, but isn’t this just the standard Tory policy to throw out when things are going to ****?
