So we just have a vote every year until it’s passed ?
Five subs big boys win again

Gap getting bigger

Got to fit all those expensive bench warmers in somehow

So is this covid rules then 5 subs in a max of three different intervals or 5 subs independent of each other.

More ways to slow down, waste time, break up play when you are 1-0 and help see the game out. There will be even less actual playing time now 😕

Hopefully they won't allow 5 individual subs or that will make a mockery of the last few minutes of a game.

It has to stay as 3 substitute intervals max, i'f be tempted to reduce it to 2 sub intervals plus half time

It's currently a max of 3 intervals in the Champions League and other top European leagues, as allowed by IFAB, the Premier League will follow suit unless they change the rule.

Good, I don't watch European football as it's bit boring so that's good to know, prem will surely follow the same rules.

It would probably be good for us if we're still in the Championship and the EFL introduce it.

It would allow Wilder to make his traditional 2 striker substitutions and still have 3 other changes to play about with.

The likes of Payero would benefit from it.

Agree with this except will there actually be less playing time? Won't there just be more extra time added now?

It really does give advantage to the big teams though. Hopefully they all b***r off to the Supedooper League.

I think they‘re supposed to add 30 seconds per substitution, but the slow trudge players make when they are winning (or drawing away from home) is often longer than that before play subsequently restarts and whilst refs can allow for that they often don’t in my view.

Ah I never knew that. Surely that's got to change especially with 5 subs? It can't be hard to time how long the substitution takes from the moment play stops to the moment play commences and then add that into the extra time. Seems only fair really.

It would definitely be good for us in the champo as we're one of the big clubs.

I'm thinking ahead though to the thought of City bringing on 400 million quids worth of players to freshen things up as we're gamely clinging onto a 3-0 deficit.

I know it would massively benefit the big teams, but I would like a rotation subs bench like they have in American sports. Imagine you've used all your subs because of injuries, and then you get another injury. You're left with 10 men on the pitch. I don't think that is fair. It doesn't happen often, but I think every team, at one point, has had to go down to 10 men because of injury. A revolving door subs bench would also allow for youth players to get on to the pitch more.

What happened to the sin bin for a yellow card idea? Red cards only for serious offenses.

Snatch a goal Karanka style, bring on five defenders and bore the life out of the game.

P.S. I personally feel Aitor is one of the best managers we've ever had but that's a discussion for a different thread.

I also saw that clubs have supported a motion to allow additional champions league places, for clubs to qualify based on historical qualification.

In other words, this translates to big EPL clubs qualifying if they miss out due to their league positions.

Whilst this approach was on a much bigger scale, it smacks of the same mentality as the failed European super league and its all driven by money.

It's the sort of rule change that benefits every team on a match by match basis. It allows more players to be given rests and allows changes to formations more easily. Majorly benefits teams that get genuine early injuries so they don't run out of subs. However, in the long term it benefits the big clubs because it means more players are happy to be bench warmers at those clubs because they will get more minutes. It just encourages hording of good players to the point that the big clubs second string is strong enough to beat everyone else's 1st string.

We sub our front 2 most games, they do a lot of running. That means one other sub. If we mostly sub like for like it means having players on the bench in defense and midfield that rarely get a chance. It must be harder for us to recruit midfielders that aren't guaranteed a start compared to forwards who know they will get at least 30 mins every week. Extra subs would benefit us in that respect. That is how the big clubs see it as well. That's how they benefit most from more subs.
