Premier League to push back restart

European governing body Uefa has written a joint letter with the European Clubs' Association and the European Leagues urging domestic bodies not to abandon their competitions.
Leagues across Europe have been told that ending competitions early could result in them forfeiting Champions League and Europa League places.

Talks about a resumption are also anticipated, when the prospect of games being played behind closed doors, potentially in a limited number of locations, will be discussed.
Training grounds have been mentioned as potentially hosting games, although it is difficult to work out how this would be a safer environment than stadiums, which, evidently, are built to host matches that, by definition, need to be broadcast in order to avoid the £750m repayment to TV companies that would be triggered by a failure to complete the current season.
That such a scenario has even been discussed underlines the overwhelming desire among Premier League clubs, which remains to complete the season in its entirety.

So the reason the top leagues haven't been binned off like the lower ones is all about not returning the money?

There must be thousands of contracts that have to be broken during this crisis for loads of businesses.

I feel football is showing itself up very badly at the moment when there are far more important things to worry about.

When all this is is hopefully over, people will remember how different companies and businesses reacted.
I think football will take a big negative hit and will be seen to be insignificant and as many of us already knew, only in it for the money.

I assume there are contractual reasons, but I don't understand why they need to pick an arbitrary date? Why not just say postponed until we are advised it is safe to resume?
They should have postponed every league as they have done the bottom tier because in their eyes, those don't matter, with no date of return to match action that way when the uncertainty has lifted & we can go out & about then resume with this seasons remaining fixtures

Do the governing body actually think that when we are all able to go about our business it will coincide with the start of the new season
Football will not start this year

I agree with all of that, unfortunately.
