Premier League PPV matches to screen from next week

Everything is a squeeze of the fan base. The objective is to extract as much revenue as possible from other people in order to make their team perform better. Nobody has to pay to watch these games, if they do it is 100% out of choice and they are categorically endorsing the prices. These matches weren’t even available to watch previously.

Yes but actually during the pandemic they were and the ordinary Prem fan pays Sky £60 plus a month for the ability to watch their football. It will also affect lower Prem club fans more because the top teams feature live most weeks. What a great opportunity to have said we understand everybody is going through a tough time we will make these games available for no extra cost still. We still have a national pandemic after all.

The millionaire players refused a salary cut, while working fans pray they will not lose their jobs in the growing recession. Now, the Premier league comes, bowl in hand, to their loyal customers saying “Please, I want some more”.

Let’s not waste time ranting at an organisation that has shown no interest in its customers opinions for years.

Fans of all clubs should vote with their wallets. Refuse to pay a penny extra to watch any match. Without fan payments, the new pay per view system is unworkable.

Sky Sports is £10/month for me, I realise standard pricing is about £30, but most people can get it for around £20. So I don’t see that it’s £60. Even with NOWTV you can get it for £20ish if you commit to a full season without needing to pay Sky anything else.

yes the clubs did all the PR and CSR stuff back when covid started and they needed to garner enough public support to get the matches back on. They don’t need to do that now so, guess what, they don’t do it.

If people don’t cough up they’ll have to rethink, but we all know people will cough up. That said, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest what other people are charging to watch matches I wouldn’t have watched anyway that wouldn’t have been televised.

Sure it doesn’t bother you from the take of your argument and that’s probably the case with a few EFL fans. As a general football fan I side with FSAs take on this. It’s pretty damn rich what the EPL are doing at this time and do hope fans boycott it. Whether they do so is another thing. I know if we were in the Prem and this happened i would be disgusted.

Fine but to me it’s like listening to heroin addicts complain about the price of cocaine “on principle”.

This product wasn’t available before, so why does it matter what it costs? Just refrain if you disagree with the price. We’re still getting what we used to get for the same price.

Re the Times piece, if people feel like following the PL constitutes watching as many matches as they physically and legally can do then there is no helping those people and they’ll continue to fuel the extra products on offer at elite prices. Ironic of the Times to publish that!

Absolute pìss take for season ticket holders who have backed their clubs in a time of uncertainty and are ‘rewarded’ by having to shell out £15 to watch a game, in theory, they’ve already paid for.

The next TV rights deal will be with an International streaming service and the offer of subscription season tickets available world wide for clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool etc will see the end of games been shown on Sky, this current situation overrides the previous block on 3pm Saturday games and the success of streaming platforms, their reach and transformative impact on lifestyles this pandemic has had will all play a part in the decision, but overriding it all will be that the bigger clubs will receive a greater share of an even bigger revenue pot which is something they’ve long coveted.

Surely season ticket holders don’t have to pay for home matches?

Whatever. If someone offers me something I don’t want, or that I never used to get, why does it matter what they’re asking for it? Just laugh and say “No thanks”.
😀😀 If it doesn’t bother you fine but got to say that for something that doesnt bother you in the slightest you’re expending some time (and words) telling us.

I just think it’s worth pointing out the illogical thought process behind it. Might make one or two people realise it’s not worth getting upset about. Nobody has a “right” to watch these games. They’re an elite product available at an elite price. But nothing’s being taken away from us.
