Premier League penalties

Just saw the Liverpool penalty. Is seems like even the slightest of contact means it a penalty. It has to be infuriating for fans but according to the BBC text "definitely penalty".

It would be interesting to see the % of goals scored from penalties so far this season.

There seems to have been many more this season but it could just be a perception.

As an aside Real Madrid have had 3 given (and scored) against them tonight. 🤣

I assumed that he meant the one they conceded. Defenders will have to wear straight jackets shortly to avoid giving away penalties. Also didn't understand why that one was given but the one against the Man City defender wasn't when he raised his arms to protect himself from the ball hitting him. For me one was trying to get his arm away from the ball but the other was moving his into the path of the ball.

Did Mane really need to go down? I'd suggest not. Later in the game he receives a far more significant check outside the box and stays on his feet. VAR has become a 'felt a touch' merchant's charter. It's easier to get a foul in the box than outside nowadays.

Biggest difference now is VAR means a ref can blow for anything and then check his decision , I donr think its a bad thing but we aren't comparing like for like with pre VAR , this is a game changer. The fame itself hasn't changed much ,its the fact that refs would only ever blow if they were 90% certain , now they blow if its 50% .

The hand balls against defenders is a joke. You can't run with a hand behind your back.

That said I guess it's become 'consistent' (in a bad way) . It's basically a stage we're the ball hits your hand it's a penalty. So at least everyone knows were they stand and no room for human error.

I am so thankful the don't have it in the EFL (even though Howson's goal against Reading would have stood). You lose more than you gain from it.

I agree that Walker's challenge on Mane was a definite pen.

As for Real Madrid, 3 of their back 4 have conceded a penalty tonight. The other one, Varane, decided to score an own goal just to be different!

And I was reading on here how Ramos is world class a few days ago! Guys a disaster.

Funny you should say that. On the MOTD2 highlights the commentator unquestioningly accepted the Mane incident was a penalty straight away. Later on in the Fulham highlights when Tom Cairney had his leg hooked the commentator's attitude was 'went down easily, not a penalty'. Wish they'd stop sucking big club ****.(n)

I was talking about the Sadio Mane penalty for reference. I just don't see anywhere where the contact in any way would cause him to go down. Everything is watched in slow motion. That is not a good representation of play.

To me I'm far more happy to accept referees making mistakes, as I can accept human error, rather than make the game 'black and white' through rules and VAR.

Penners should be a last resort. There like confetti now. Game needs to go bsck to 1980 and reset itself. Make it a mans game again.
