POP-UPROAD SAFETY EVENT IN CLEVELAND CENTRE

A pop-up road safety event with fun activities for children and advice for people wanting to ditch the car is taking place in the Cleveland Centre.

Middlesbrough Council’s road safety team are hosting the event alongside a number of partner agencies this week having opened on Wednesday and holding its final day today (Friday, August 18).

Special guest for the event is Middlesbrough Council’s road safety champion Safety Squirrel who will be posing for pictures with any visitors to the shop unit a few doors down from Costa Coffee opposite Poundland.

Advice and guidance can also be given around walking routes, cycling routes and the laws for e-bike and e-scooter users, as well as any other queries members of the public may have.

Also represented at the joint enterprise are Eden Mobility, Middlesbrough Environment City, Skinnergate Cycles, Sustrans and Cleveland Police.

Mike O’Reilly, Middlesbrough Council’s Road Safety and Sustainable Travel Officer, said: “The idea of today is to really let people know that Middlesbrough Council has a road safety team and that we do events like this to remind people that we take it very seriously.

We have focused on active travel and sustainable travel and that is all about alternative methods of transport to the car and encouraging and helping people to make alternative travel choices.”
