When will Boro fans finally give up the ghost?

I don't know about you, but while a few weeks ago I was seriously concerned we were going down, now I'm desperately trying to read the runes to find portents for Boro making the most incredible end-of-season run to sneak into the play-offs and (who knows?) gain promotion!

This most maddening of football clubs we support. This lifelong affliction. Will they kill us off brutally tomorrow after toying with us for the last few games. will they tease us with a couple more victories? Will they keep pulling off improbable victories against top teams only to capitulate against the also-rans? Or can they storm into sixth place only to flop in the play-offs for the second year running?

I would think for many (most maybe?) we've already pretty much given up hope.

But that doesn't mean we don't care about the run in, still want to win as many as possible.

My hope is that maybe we can win the next two and get a bit closer. I might have genuine hope of us scraping into the play-offs then.

I've already accepted that we are not going up. Where's my option?

Eh?
'Accepting' we aren't going up and possessing hope in football 'miracles' aren't mutually exclusive. I mean you accept you're gonna die but the fact they have reversed ageing in mice might make you ponder on a few what ifs. Obviously, Boro won't make it but if we win the next three games - and why not? - you honestly won't start getting excited...?

I know what I want to happen, promotion via playoffs, but it's an almost impossible ask, well the 1st bit of finishing 6th at the end of play on the final day of the regular season, so I'm going to try and just take as it comes, because it isn't just dependant on us, we need to rely on at least 3 other clubs to play their parts. But if the almost impossible happens, we finish in a playoff place then I'm going to put us as favourite in the playoff situation, but I can't see us getting to be in that position unfortunately.

As much as I like to think that I've made my peace with being in the championship next season......because of my many years of supporting Boro and the curve balls they throw out I'm still hanging on to the idea of making the playoffs

Why does anyone want a season in the pl, other than Gibson.

BTW, we get in the playoffs, we storm em and we are in the chumps league next season

As said if we make playoffs, then we are the form team on a good run… then who knows!!!

Also makes you wonder if we had got more from so many games we should have won, despite this been a poor season.

I.e QPR, Huddersfield, Millwall, at home . Preston away (one of worst teams I have seen home and away) and am sure many more. Conveniently forgetting any games where we got more than we should have

The home games where we just didn't turn up, never looked like scoring - Bristol City, QPR, Ipswich, Plymouth - those are the games that make you think we don't really deserve to be in the play-offs anyhow. Ok, we beat Leicester twice, but both times it was essentially a backs-to-the-wall performance. Only at home to Preston would you say we had one of those fluid dominant performances games we got so used to last year. Fair play, injuries ruined our season and we did look good on that run before Xmas. But since then, we spluttered and at times have been abject.

Obviously, anything is a bonus given where we were a few weeks back. However bad we've been, it shows that others aren't that great either - except the top 3 - and once it's the play-offs anything could happen. If results go our way today, it'll be impossible not to start dreaming...

C'mon you Tractor Boys!
