Fracking perfectly safe in various parts of world - Truss

Ms Truss is now speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire, a county which currently has the only fracking operation in the UK.
"We will only press ahead with fracking in areas where there is local community support," she says.
She says the UK has become dependent on global energy prices, which have risen due to the war in Ukraine, and "we simply do not want to be in that position".
She says fracking carried out in various parts of the world is "perfectly safe".

fracking is safe, when done correctly.

Just as mining, steel making and industry in general is safe when following the correct process and safeguards.

No it’s not as the act itself puts foreign bodies into the water table, it might be more safe orvless safe but the act itself is a risk.

Bear this in mind this in the US

In April, 2020, the New York State legislature permanently banned high-volume hydraulic fracturing (often called fracking) within the state.

Risks and Concerns of Fracking
  • Contamination of groundwater.
  • Methane pollution and its impact on climate change.
  • Air pollution impacts.
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals.
  • Blowouts due to gas explosion.
  • Waste disposal.
  • Large volume water use in water-deficient regions.
  • Fracking-induced earthquakes.

Fracking is dangerous in that it uses extremely dangerous chemicals, which can lurch into the water table. In it's basic workings it fractures rocks which depend on the friction between themselves and other rocks to provide stability, hence the danger of earthquakes. I can recall an incident in the USA, where a CEO of a major fracking company, who was all gungho on pressing forward with fracking everywhere it was decided it would be financially beneficial. That was until a geological survey revealed a very lucrative site, which happened to be a few miles from the CEO's rather splendid home... He immediately knocked that one on the head !
The main consideration concerning this shale gas is that any gas garnered from fracking, will not in any way at all benefit the average Brit, or make the UK self energy dependent. That fracked gas will be sold on the market, as a commodity...
Personally, I'm against fracking because I'm not keen on the whole water table pollution business. It's not a part of the tree hugging conservationists versus the capitalist finance bodies .. For me, it's common sense that we must, must, must look for energy sources that are the least destructive to the environment.

Lancashire MPs not impressed:
Attitudes have hardened since our Lizzy dripping was handed leadership of the country!

[Published in March 2022]

Lancashire MPs have been speaking out against industry pressure to revive fracking in the county.

Speaking in Parliament, they questioned the business minister Greg Hands over whether the Government was about to do a U-turn over the Preston New Road site in Lancashire, which is due to have its two test wells filled in with concrete within the next five weeks.

But, under pressure from the onshore oil and gas industry and Tory MPs who think fracked gas might cut dependency on the three per cent of Russian gas the UK currently uses, the Government said the capping of the wells was currently “under discussion”.

Tory MP for Ashfield in Nottinghamshire, Lee Anderson, said: “Cuadrilla, the company that owns the wells have spent the last six days trying to get hold of anyone at BEIS or the Oil and Gas Authority to receive confirmation that they no longer need to carry out this abandonment process. But they are being ignored.”

Only with local community support?? Roughly translated……..so don’t worry you inhabitants of the Home Counties it won’t be happening in Surrey or Sussex, but those poverty stricken Northeners will jump at the chance for a handful of jobs!!

It may or not be viable but it won't affect the worldwide global price of energy.

Why would the company running the sites miss out on selling it on the international markets?

Just down the road there was a geological survey which highlighted possibilities for fracking around the Mansfield Area. Might be interesting with all the coal still underground around Notts. Ive never heard anyone shouting about the benefits of fracking - who live next door to the site(n)

Fracking the USA is mostly in remote sites well away from urban developments like 50 miles away, certainly in England its hard to be 50 miles from a town if not impossible. The common areas for fracking are North and South Dakota and West Texas with very low population density. I have been told their rock formations are much easier to fracture becasue they have less folds abnd faults. The UK coalfields as a generalistion always had a problem with folds and faults which may them more difficult to mine and natural gas is not a lot different. Our rock formations are relatively complex. look at the complexity on a geological map of the UK.

Nuclear has issues but I would put that well ahead of Fracking as an area to develop in the UK. Rolls Royce have supposedly developed some smaller nuclear reactors that could be built in around 5 years. I think they got involved in nuclear submarines which have been running for many years now.

The reason the tories have gone too far with their ultra right ‘project’ is truss can’t ‘read the room’. She’d be fine now if she’d just introduced energy bill support but she’s even more stupid than Boris and this is the Tory sects downfall (finally)

Mind, the damage done on the country is profound and will take some careful sorting out (main one to resolve is brexit and finding a closer relationship with the EU friends)
