He won a move to Sunderland (via Marseille).

He played his best football in this country as a central midfielder for us.

He did but we were really the low point of his career at that stage. He went from Real Madrid to us so moving to Tottenham wasn't like he had just been discovered. He did very little at Spurs (due to injuries again) so I'm not sure I'd count it as a huge success. The League Cup was within a month of him arriving and that was the only trophy he won in his whole career.

Based on current league position (which I know is very unfair) most of the players we sold are playing at a higher level than the Boro now.

On average I would say mid-table championship.

For the ones we let go, I can’t see any that have gone on to do better.

Hodgson didn't, he started well but didn't last long at Liverpool then it was a downward spiral. Best football for him was at Ayresome.
