Play Off Confidence

The playoffs are brutal.

Turn up like we did against Brentford, we will have a great chance in the final.

Turn up like we did against Villa, Championship next season.

But then remember our last final......? 😬😬

If we play as well as we can - or as well as we've shown - we will be promoted. I'm confident of that. But we're not firing on all cylinders so that is a big leveller. But injuries have recently taken their toll, so changes and nothing to play for......have the team been told to take it easy 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

As it stands (today) I would honestly say Luton are favourites, finished third and they can play sh*t but get the results. We play sh*t we more often than not get beat.

Three cup finals as the cliche goes, need to be on it from the first minute and we'll see 👍

So you're effectively saying that "the league table is lying", which I believe someone else was hammered on this board for saying. Perhaps they should stop promoting teams based on their league position, and do a vote or something ?

If we take your example then Burnley (taken 6 points from us), Rotherham (taken 4 points from us) and Huddersfield (taken 4 points from us) are better than us, so we're not the 2nd best team in the league by that measurement either.

To think we call the Mackems and Geordies deluded.
I never said the table is lying, I described what it shows which is points accrued in a certain amount of games.
And your second point just highlights your lack of comprehension skills as you clearly didn't read the end of my comment either.
And of course I was merely sharing my opinion on the quality of our team, it may be incorrect or correct but it is my opinion based on the evidence I have been presented with and my (vast) knowledge of the game.

I was just wondering how confident people are going in to the play offs.

The last few weeks injuries and performances have dented my confidence.

Just wondered how everyone else was feeling.

It's going to be a ride that's for sure #UTB
It's not going to be a walk in the park. Anyone can beat anyone in this league. We've got a good chance.. but nothing is guaranteed.

a least we're in the mix!

I think when it comes to the crunch games we will just have the edge over our rivals.
Last few games in all honesty there was nothing to play for as job done in securing 3rd or 4th spot and human nature means you might cruise and not go as hard for every ball / tackle despite what coaches might be asking of you.

When potential promotion is actually on the line, whatever team we put out will terrify the opposition and nobody will want to play us.

Oh you've got me now, your "vast knowledge of the game". Perhaps the FA should just ask you to choose the two best teams and promote them.

Of course the league shows the points accrued after a certain amount of games, which is the way to identify the best two teams, those who've won the most points over a set amount of games - they are the actual two best teams in the league - there's no getting around it.

Unless of course by "best" you mean something completely different of course ?

I'm very confident. I do hope we get a positive result next Monday and I really hope we play Milwall, I think they're our best chance of success through two legs.

If we can get our walking wounded back even better.

If I'm Carrick, I'm getting SAF down to give the lads a motivational talk about how nobody cares about losers and they have to win 😂

I would be more than happy to face Luton in the final at Wembley.

A fully fit squad along with a vaguely competent referee and/pr VAR and we win that game.

Just grateful to be in the mix. We have a good chance but nothing is certain for anyone in the playoffs and we have no divine right. My ambition for this season before Carrick was just to stay up given the position Wilder left us in.

If we don't go up I'd like Luton to. They've had an amazing couple of seasons given their resources.

Cant see us winning it with this form and our injuries

If Coventry and Sunderland make it I think there's your final

I think we are the best team in the play offs and probably the 2nd best team in the league.
However we concede a lot of goals and over 3 games the randomness factor is high so feel like we could also get beat off anybody too.
But we score a lot too, it's no more random that being really solid but not scoring many.

Jesus, "this form". Our last two home games we won 5-1 and 3-1 and blitzed the opposition in periods.
Since then we've rotated, had some injuries and are just waiting for the play offs. Plus the last two games have been decided by awful refereeing decisions.

The last 2 results on paper are clearly not good.

But we all know the results don't paint a full picture.

The last 2 performances haven't been bad.

Luton away, we dominated the ball and the game and other than a set piece and a quite ridiculous penalty call, we weren't troubled by a Luton team who fielded their first 11, at home, against our 2nd string.

Yesterday, we rotated again and were missing a good number of key players and we again dominated the ball (granted we didn't test their keeper as much as we should have), all whilst being down to 10 men.

The only thing that worries me so far is our injury record.

If we have all our first team fit going into the play offs, then I'll be happy and confident.

We've lost 4 out of the last 7.

Yeah i know, but one against Burnley and the last two when we're already in the play offs and rotating, and suffering awful refs. It's only really the Huddersfield one that stands out as a big concern.
Even if we were flying you're always at risk of losing one in the play offs. Carrick has been there before in big games and will be making sure we're in the right place when the play offs commence.

If we win the playoffs, no doubt we'll all agree it was the right thing to have rested a few players in the last couple of weeks.

If we lose, fans will argue it was the wrong thing to do.

What there won't be, either way, is any evidence that the decision made a difference.

Yesterday was awful and our attempts to pretend it was down to Stroud conveniently ignore the point that if he’d been competent with all the big decisions we’d have been down to ten half an hour before we were* and down to nine if he hadn’t bottled the one that probably was a dogso foul having given one that probably wasn’t.

But it didn’t matter and it doesn’t matter.

* - and missing Hackney for the semis in all probability as a dangerous tackle defaults to three not one, we have a lot to thank his idiosyncratic refereeing for.
