PISTOL

for a bloke who went on a reality tv show (maybe multiple reality tv shows) and appears on adverts, its a bit weird he's kicking up a stink about this.

As above just think lydon is a bit of a tool, to be honest once you're older than 25 and actually listen to the b0ll0cks he spouts its undeniable he's a tool!

great music but idiot

Wouldn't expect him to know what socks he has on neverminds the bands history. Book is written by someone who is not S. Jones.

They readily admit they'd have had more chance of surviving by if Glen Matlock had stayed
They immediately brought him back when they reformed

They weren't The Clash were they.

One of my favourite Joe Strummer stories was the Pistols were playing on the same bill as The Clash and wanted to use some of their kit. Joe caught wind of the fact that they intended to use some Nazi symbology as part of their shock schtick and told them to fukkoff. Said symbology was hastily removed.

I think the Pistol's place in popular history is solely down to "that" interview with Russel Harty, the music was nothing special, disposable pop music with clever marketing. Some great riffs curtesy of the aforementioned Mr. Matlock I suppose.

I love NMTB. Still sounds as fresh as it did back then. Matlock was the talent and it's unfortunate that Rich Kids were not as big as they should have been - But then Midge had his own ideas.

I,’ve seen the interview but long time after i had listened to NMTB time after time. I wasn’t born until 84 so can’t agree with that statement.

The Pistols' twin attack of Jonesy's guitar and Rotten's threat made them unassailable at the time, for me. They sounded dangerous in a way The Clash - undoubtedly better musicians and more aware/intelligent - never did. I liked a lot of The Clash's stuff but back then it was The Pistols who scared the bejaysus out of the establishment.

At the outset The Clash were better musicians but not by much and weren't much more aware/intelligent than the Pistols, Lydon for all the acting was very intelligent and articulate when he chose to be. A lot of The Clash ideology was down to Bernie.

I say all that as someone who has loved The Clash for 44 years.
