Just watched a documentary about this on YouTube, was surprised that I’d never heard of it before. Was there many from Teesside on the rig or was it mainly a Scottish thing?
 
There is documentary on sky ir maybe itv. Can’t remember which. It’s called biggest disasters in British history and it’s on there. A lot is missing though, dunblane, 7/7. Think if you see the list you could think of worse (not piper alpha)
 
Piper Alpha's terrible tragedy was a massive turning point in the oil & gas industry. Cullen's report afterwards changed everything, at least in the north sea. That culture of just doing whatever you were told without challenging, for fear of getting an NRB (not required back) note, and production being all that mattered, had to go, and thankfully largely it did.
