Picture Paper - Ironborough

I worked on a Community scheme in the 1980s and we invited Max Locke back to Middlesbrough. Really interesting to see what he made of the town. We didn't ever adopt his plan but were definitely influenced by his plans and the social studies and interviews of Ruth Glass.

1946 and many houses in the Boro, without indoor plumbing!

The late 1940s was a boom time for newspapers and magazines - nearly everyone could read by then, say those born after 1880, but there was no TV yet.
