Picking up from Newcastle Airport

Anyone done it recently?

Is there somewhere nearby to park up for a quick run through the short stay once the traveller has exited passport control?

(Asking for a tight arsse picking up off the Schiphol flight at 22:30 tonight)

There's a layby on the A696 just before the airport. That's assuming getting there from the Newcastle direction.

According to the website "Short Stay 2" gives you 15 minutes free. Catch being I can't find "Short Stay 2" on google maps.

Found it Medium Stay gives you a free 15 minutes (I think)

I always get my lift to park in the shell garage just outside at the roundabout

The problem with the lay by is it tends to get full with everyone doing the same thing. If it is full, instead of turning right at the roundabout for the airport, go straight on to the next roundabout, turn right and around 100 yards up the road, on the left is a cemetery which has a car park you can wait in.

The last thing you want to do is overstay your welcome at the cemetery!

Found the layby no problem (after "enjoying" a detour through Newcastle's West End as the A1 was closed between the Metro Centre and the Airport).

Rather suspiciously (and not a little unnervingly) I shared the layby with an Artic with the back doors open and a car in front of it with the engine running. I always have trouble getting out of airport car parks, but to make it harder to read the exit signs faintly painted on the tarmac it was p!ssing down, but got out eventually.

When I used to commute to work early morning would often see Attic's parked up overnight with the back door open. Always, wondered why only guess is there empty anyway and don't anyone trying to break in but writing it down now that seems pretty far fetched

Never thought of that it makes sense, perhaps the car in front was just someone like me on an Airport pickup?

At least the airport is a commercial enterprise, hospitals charging nurses to park to get to work. Doesn't get much lower.
