Phil Thompson, Charlie Nicholas and Matt Le Tissier

Had a feeling Tissier would be disappearing soon with all of his ranting on Twitter regarding Covid... but have to say I'm shocked three of them are going. Merson is definitely the worst pundit out of the four so even more shocked he's managed to hold on to the job.

Grew up watching these so will take a while to get used to their replacements, whoever they are.

Anna Woolhouse who presents the boxing on Sky is quite good, not sure if its her words being said or a producer in her ear though.
Anna Woolhouse is a fantastic presenter. She really knows her stuff about boxing and has the respect of all the ex-pros and old hacks that she works with. She is super fit with all her gym and running activities and I think this is partly why the boxers respect her so much. She was talking about doing some actual boxing herself last year but not heard anything recently.

She was on SSN for years before taking leap and becoming the dedicated boxing presenter so can't see her wanting to give it up.

Agree with Woolhouse. She's perfect for the boxing. Very very good at her job. Hopefully she stays there.

As for Soccer Special. I'm sad to see Le Tiss go because I always thought he was decent.

Thommo and Nicholas were always clueless but they were there to laugh at and not with.

Block makes a good point about Merson, his mental health needs a job like that to keep him focused. He's not the greatest but understand why he's kept on.

As for the replacements. If Sue Smith is on the panel, then it'll go downhill very quickly.

She hasn't got a clue. The amount of times she's arguing with Warnock and Gallagher on SSN regarding Ref watch is ridiculous, and blatantly obvious she's wrong because of the rulings. She's an absolute clown, and pretty much only on SSN to tick the boxes.

Wouldn't mind Alex Scott though, she clearly does her research and has a good fountain of knowledge and experience.

Sue Smith nailed on, and I've got to echo what others have said, she is absolutely woeful. Matt Murray is very, very dull as well, but I'd imagine he'd be brought in. The less said about Clinton Morrison the better, what these producers see in him is beyond me. Terrible opinions, terrible way of talking, and the way he rests his t*ts on the top of his trousers really annoys me

Merson is utterly stupid and completely inarticulate.
What a world where he retains such a lucrative job for being so bad at it because an employer is frightened of bad publicity if he falls off his "wagon".
Clinton Morrison is so gormless I can't believe he has been chosen and Micah Richards is just terrible.
I am more than happy for black player inclusion, but can't they still be really good too; it is insulting?

Panels have to evolve, but these replacements are horrendous.
Scott on with Neville, Souness, Keane, (even Carragher) and the A list is just woeful, she has absolutely no insight.
That scouse lady is absolutely awful too, the same as that shouty/screechy commentator.

The cricket is the same. The likes of Atherton, Hussein, Warne, Holding you learn from, not just listen to.

It is not a problem replacing people, provided you replace them with better.

I genuinely think most people, including Sky, have missed the point about the show's popularity. It is less about accurate and incisive reporting and more about passing a pleasant saturday afternoon, looking at the scores come in and chatting about football in general with some good banter. More or less what you would get watching it in a pub with your mates. That said, the three going will probably not be missed if replaced sensibly. Clinton Morrison is a must. He is honest, self deprecating and does not take it too seriously.

Thompsons last game was 1986

Nicholas - 1996

Le Tissier - 2003.

To remember any of them playing you would have to be at least 25 and in the case of Thompson 45! - at the end of their careers.

For younger fans [below 35] they have no connection with these old blokes, sat gabbing about the old days.

For a huge number of younger fans, football has alweays been the Premier League - we cant change that - I feel they`ve missed the rich flavour of on-the pitch terraces and all that went before.

But thats the way it is.

Time for a change.

Le Tissier is not exactly old - he is 51 - he played most of his career in the Premiership. I quite like him as a presenter.

There are others working at Sky that are over 60.

For me it was time to move Phil Thompson on - he was a player of the 1970s which was a different era.
