Peter Alliss on Masters.

Great commentator, always liked home on Pro Celebrity golf, his discussions with Lee Trevino and the celebs were always good, loved that show.

Bill McClaren yes. I know a lot of Rugby League fans who disliked Eddie. His later years he lived up to the Milke Yarwood caracture.
Good article on him here . Particularly his later years with Alzeimers. He was instrumental in making a northern sport nationally popular.

One of the great commentators. In the same league as

Richie Benaud
Brian Johnstone
John Arlott
Harry Carpenter
David Coleman
Henry Longhurst
I think most of those got the job out of luck , right place, right time and turned out to be incredibly suited to the job

I think a commentator should have a good knowledge of the sport and Peter Allis certainly presented this. I'll add Murray Walker to the list above.

I always remember Murray’s immortal line, ‘....and that’s the advantage of having a clean windscreen’....at which point the car left the track straight into a grass bank.....😁

Cliff Morgan
“John Pullin, England’s captain. The hooker…” And then, “Kirkpatrick, to Williams. This is great stuff. Phil Bennett covering. Chased by Alistair Scown. Brilliant… Ooooh, that’s brilliant! John Williams, Bryan Williams …Pullin, John Dawes …Great dummy! …David, Tom David …the halfway line …Brilliant by Quinnell! This is Gareth Edwards! A dramatic start! What a score!”

I can't watch the Master's highlights on BBC because of the anchor woman, Eilidh Barbour and her strong guttural Glaswegian accent, and have to put the subtitles on. She's taken over from the legendary Hazel Irvine, another Scot who's voice was so pleasing it could lull you to sleep, and BBC golf and snooker commentaries haven't been the same since she retired from the media. I suppose Ms Barbour ticks the box for BBC having a diversity of regional accents, but surely if that's the case there are other more pleasing ladies with better and more understandable accents.

Eilidh Barbour comes from Perthshire, not Glasgow. I don't think she has a particularly strong accent. Compare her to some of the football commentators and she's much more understandable, and speaks better English too.

Lots v good but some are just that bit more and are legends. I liked gerald sinstat, spelling probs wrong lol. I thought our last commentator n presenter(forget his name now) was crap.
