Big name signings.. For me Giles and Steffen come under that category for a middling Championship club.. The Gazette appear to have added the word Marquee to the article but I can't see anything which shows Wilder saying he was promising marquee signings.

He was asked by a local reporter about potential "Marquee" or "big name" signings and Wilder said "maybe".
Its amazing how misquotes travel....

Not surprising that Bee-sized-bears can soon turn into Bear-sized Bees.

People need to get it out of their heads that we’re not a well run club . The last 13 years have seen us run like a joke

I see a great month coming up. Regardless of what people say, we have a massive derby match on Monday. The atmosphere will be great. We then go to Blackpool on Saturday. We’ve been waiting for a Saturday game there since the tower was built. Over 3000 boro will make for a great day out.
Then 2 decent home games.
A few players are going to have to up their games, paddy for one. Fry will get more time and look like the defender he is. I think muniz will go on a decent streak.
Still plenty of positives.

If lose on Monday our bed wetting fans will turn on the manager and players, Jones the most likely .scape goat

Bed wetting? We’re nearly 10 games in and 1 win in them . Our form was shot at the end of last season too

We were told we were going to go for promotion , yet if anything the signs are pointing to mid table at best
 
The media conference which I presume is today should be interesting! I feel sorry for wilder personally as I think the club have let him down.

Wilder did say 'Big Name' signings...I've posted the quote from the gazette

Exactly that.. BIG NAME signings are the words Wilder used yet everyone keeps telling us he ‘promised marquee’ signings which he didn’t say.. the gazette used that word. For a club which finished mid pack in the Championship over the past few seasons, signings like Steffen, Giles, and to a lesser extent, Mowatt and Lenighan have to be seen as big names at this level, capable of improving the first team… unless people were expecting Mbappe and Haaland instead!?

I agree with you that poor form has continued from last season but we’re on the up
 
I wouldn’t worry things have a way of working out even if we get beat by Sunderland it’s still early enough for wilder to work his magic and turn things around, from the football I have seen so far we are unlucky not to have another 6 points on our tally on the whole the football has been good we are scoring and even without additional players coming in I think we are slightly stronger right now than last season, tighten it up get a bit of luck build confidence and then push on and up the table. If there is any money left and we are looking like genuine contenders for the automatic/play offs I am sure we won’t be let down, have some faith utb 👍

And he didn't 'promise' anything.
He 'hoped' and was 'confident' they would come. At the time I reckon he was thinking of Armstrong.
Craig Johns reported that he 'hinted' at marquee signings (John's words), not that he actually said it. Although he did put the word in quotation marks the scallywag.

I thought he was asked if he would rather fight a bear sized bee or a thousand bee sized bears.
He chose a bear sized bee so I assumed he didn't understand the question. Or he thinks he is Nigel Pearson.
