Penalty?

Danny Mills and former top referee Keith Hackett have both criticised Ben Toner for failing to give the penalty to Boro and also for booking Dijksteel and failing to give him the free kick. Hackett said the booking was wrong in law as he was pulled off balance leading to the Rothwell incident.

I was at the game last night so haven’t seen any highlights but seen a quick clip on social media of the Sky studio saying Boro could have had a penalty in the first half. What incident was that? I don’t recall anything.

For those at the game how awful was the linesman in front of the Boro fans. In the first half he missed at least SIX offside calls. Leadbitter went straight to the officials at half time. Didn’t make a difference in the result but shows how poor the officials are.
I think the foul on Lath when Doak was on the break (basically got pushed over leaving Doak on his own) was what angered them the most, or tipped them over the edge. Even Carrick was in the 4th officials ear and he normally holds back

Why would LL want to get involved in a tussle in that situation when he was ahead of the Leeds defender, all he wanted to do was get into the box so Doak had someone to cross to. Blatant taking man out of the ball. If ref had seen it possible red but as he didn't the linesman or the 4th official (who both must have seen it) should have informed ref. The ref should than have cautioned the player. Linesman and 4th official not doing the job properly.
No, watch it again. Lath played for it.

With the penalty, McGree goes down with a scream, rolls around like he's hurt, and then - when it's not given - just gets up and runs back. It might have been a penalty but the theatrics probably made the ref's mind up.

I’ve missed this recent rule change. When someone commits a blatant foul it’s how the person who just got booted reacts which determines whether a foul is given. Sound logic.👍

There was no might have, anyone who’s not got a biased agenda can see it was an absolutely clear cut penalty.

Should have been a penalty - their player clearly caught him
Also Dijksteel was blatantly pulled by a Leeds player - making him a split second late for the tackle. He got a yellow card too

In my humble opinion we should have var in the championship. For starters the more it's used down the football pyrimid the more it can evolve and get better.
Believe you me it ain't going away so we might as well all get used to it and try and make it better.

It would probably have been given if it had been a Leeds player in our penalty area and that is the real problem.

There will be those who say we were poor last night in a few areas of the team and so didn’t deserve to win but these sorts of decisions do affect games and their outcomes whether you like it or not.

VAR should be brought in to keep the game clean from a refereeing point of view.
