Pears

Pears is still a kid in GK terms. There is only one younger keeper in this league, that's the Swansea one. He's playing in front of a much better team. Pears is trying to organise 1 CB, a RB whose been injured most of the season, a LB playing at CB whose legs have gone and a winger playing at LB, into a cohesive unit. Keep him, get him out on loan next year to League One and look at getting him the number one shirt the year after.

I'd be looking at getting another first choice keeper. You don't need to spend big money, the Leeds GK was free, Biakolwski at Millwall was pittance, Woodman at Swansea is a loanee, and the Charlton GK came through the ranks. All better than what we have.

A new team has to come in!

Ayala, Shotton and Gestede have already gone. Clayton, Friend, Johnson are on their way. Roberts and Nmecha will go back to City. If we got a reasonable offer for Britt or Fry they’d be away too.

There’s also a chance that if we got a decent offer for Spence or Coulson we’d cash in.

That doesn’t leave much left.

Warnock (or whoever) has a massive rebuilding job on their hands and hardly any time to do it.

Very true. And that's why I hope it's Warnock and not another 'project'!!

The home game with Sheff Wed was the one that did it for me but either way Dimi was head and shoulders above him
Don’t get me wrong, Dimi was great for us, but those two mistakes (the other being against Leeds I think) really heaped the pressure on Mejias With regards to our fans and smashed his confidence I think.

Well I hope you are not suggesting all is well backstage and great decisions abound. He is far from perfect, as are all the keepers
No mate not at all. But out of the top 4 keepers we’ve had this season he’s the only one not played a league game.

I agree (y) However, does that mean he is the worst keeper? My eyes tell me he has issues but is better than others that are there.

my order on game time history is

Mejias
Stojanovic
Pears.

Others disagree, thats fine. I do know we can do far better than all 3 and need to.

Joe Hart was never one of the best keepers in the world. And he didn't just get rid of him because he couldn't pass a ball. It was also because he's ****
How can you tell it's a Saturday night?

2 premier league titles
1 fa cup
2 league cups
4 premier league golden gloves, 3 of which he won 3 times in a row
2 PFA team of the year awards
75 caps for England
467 professional appearances
2 world cup squads and 2 euro championship squads.

Yeah he's proper ****. 😂

Absolute levels above any keeper we currently have at the club. The defence is poor and also lacking confidence. They aren't going to get it from a youngster who shouts a lot but doesn't back it up with his own game.

Pears is the new Jason Steele.

The comment on Pears being teh new Steele is both premature and unfair. But yes, of course Hart is way better then every keeper on our books. Would he be value for money though? I would expect he would be looking for very decent wages by championship standards, if that is where he ends up.

I worry about our keepers. As an ex keeper, sadly never full professional level, too short was the reason, and its true sadly, but I know a good keeper when I see one. Boro have had 4 top quality ones. Platt, Schwarzer, Pears and Crossley. Dimi was decent but just short of top quality. I loved Given, but he messed up so discard him, he played well for us though.

Mejias is better than Pears and Dijon for me, Pears reminds me of Steele. However, none of the 3 are ideal and we could do better. Mejias was superb against Man City in the cup and Arsenal too back in the day, but he has mistakes in him that trouble too.

Stephen Pears is my favourite all time Boro keeper. Great shot stopper unlike his son. I would also add Randolph to the list of top Boro keepers. He would make at least one outstanding save every match we don't have that now with the keepers we have.

If anyone thinks Mejias is the answer then we are doomed. He was awful first time around (apart from a couple of cup runs) and very quickly got bumped down to 3rd choice under woody.

He's 31 and made 46 career appearances in his lifetime. That's stealing a living as a professional footballer. My god that's easy money😂

I don't think any of our 3 keepers are nailed on No1s. I'm pretty confident that Warnock doesn't overly rate either.

You can usually pick up an experienced mid 30 keeper on the cheap or free. You always see people like Keiron Westwood or Lee camp who've been around years being linked with various clubs. I would take either above our lot.

John McLaughlin is available on a free from Sunderland. Linked with a host of champo clubs and a top keeper (from the few times I've seen him).

Need to make a Shay Given type of signing again. Experienced pro who is reliable and gives real confidence to the back 4 in front of him. Pick them up on a free and wages linked to where we finish. There are plenty of blokes who could fill those credentials

Crossley was a great on loan signing. His distribution was excellent back then. Superb shot stopper to. 11 Clean sheets in 16 I believe

Actually, he was not a loan signing, he joined on a free transfer. He was with us about 3 years or so. He was too good to be an understudy. He played well when called on, we loaned him out i believe.

John McLaughlin signed for Rangers a couple of weeks ago.
